Heard on the radio this morning that the ICC are toying with the idea of scrapping the 'video umpire' concept, perhaps by September.
After the obvious failings with the 'disputed catch syndrome' (which we are regularly assured by Ch.9 commentators now stands at 13 not outs, and 0 outs in games televised by 9), it is a logical step to do away with this part of the facility, but I wouldn't have thought that there have been too many run-out or stumping decisions that have given cause to scrap it altogether. The Hussain stumping decision in the 4th Test took about 10 replays to give not-out, but by and large, the system has worked for these.
Ironic, isn't it. it was only a matter of a few months ago that 'the powers that be' were advocating bringing in the video replay for everything from LBW's to caught behinds, and now the same people want to scrap it altogether?
Ahhh. Leave it all to the men in the middle. That's what we are there for!

As long as it stays for run outs and stumpings I wouldn't mind seeing it go.

But they can't win can they? If there is a decision that is wrong then all arms are up and every piece of technology is called for to make cricket perfect. And when it comes in everyone hates it! You woul've heard in yesterday's play, Dalgleish, that one of the commentators was talking about giving the umpires access to the stump cam to hear for nicks for the caught behinds. It's got to stop somewhere!

Now in the paper, they are saying that, chances are, it will be scrapped for the catches, but stay for run-outs and stumpings.
I'm with you. Run-outs and stumpings are pretty much black and white decisions. But let's leave it at that. The 'human' aspect of cricket is one of its enduring charms, so let's keep as much of the 'human' element in the game as possible.

I'm of the old school, If the umpire can't make his mind up from the actual event then the benefit of the doubt should go to the batsman. NOT OUT - then again the players have to play by the same rules and be honest enough to say the ball went for four and yes I did hit it! Cricket is reknowned for being the game which people accept as being the True Sport - the phrase "It's just not Cricket" sums it up.

They are just 'toying around' with the idea! at least it isn't there for the WC.
One important thing is third umpires may not have been required when cricket wasn't televised.
Now it is important for protecting the 'integrity' of an umpire! one bad decision and all vultures swoop down on him! Here, we make it a conspiracy by the umpires!
