Heard on the radio this morning that the ICC are toying with the idea of scrapping the 'video umpire' concept, perhaps by September.
After the obvious failings with the 'disputed catch syndrome' (which we are regularly assured by Ch.9 commentators now stands at 13 not outs, and 0 outs in games televised by 9), it is a logical step to do away with this part of the facility, but I wouldn't have thought that there have been too many run-out or stumping decisions that have given cause to scrap it altogether. The Hussain stumping decision in the 4th Test took about 10 replays to give not-out, but by and large, the system has worked for these.
Ironic, isn't it. it was only a matter of a few months ago that 'the powers that be' were advocating bringing in the video replay for everything from LBW's to caught behinds, and now the same people want to scrap it altogether?
Ahhh. Leave it all to the men in the middle. That's what we are there for!
