13 weekly winners in iRB rounds 2 and 4, with 4/4, which eclipses the 12 weekly winners in the same comp in 2003.

This Month's Medals Ceremony

RLC Cup
  • the tipping comp was won by PaulE, followed by srini701, and gtho4 in 3rd place.
  • this was the first running of a tipping comp for the Rugby League Challenge.
NRL
  • the tipping comp was won by Nannanut, followed by Howie72 and gtho4.
  • the defending title holder was Davjack .. no-one has successfully defended their title; this year was the 8th NRL tipping comp!
(it was the first ever FT tipping comp back in March 2000)
  • Howie72 was runner-up last year, and Nannanut came home in 3rd place (podium finishers again this year).
  • four players have won this comp twice:
    2001 and 2003 : Sypher
    2000 and 2004 : gtho4
    2003 and 2006 : Davjack
    2005 and 2007 : Nannanut
  • who will become the first to win this comp three times?
  • there were 15 in this year's comp (all time record is 19 runners back in 2003).
AFL
  • the tipping comp was won by buck5ley, followed by Sypher and gtho4.
  • buck5ley won last year's comp, and successfully defended his title (ElfTwinkle and Nannanut filled the minor placings last year).
  • buck5ley is shooting for 2 more, to equal the 4 consecutive wins by gtho4 from 2002 to 2005, the all-time FT record for back-to-back wins.
  • the other all-time record of note is 6 consecutive silver medals by Sypher in the NFL from 2000 to 2005.
  • while we're at it, what's the all-time record for most wins in the same comp? It's the 5 wins in the FAPL comp by Sypher : 2001 - 2003 - 2004 -2006 - 2007.
  • there were 14 participants (all-time high for AFL was 18 runners in last year's comp).
Super League
  • the tipping comp was won by ElfTwinkle, followed by gtho4 and Sypher.
  • this was the first running of a Super League tipping comp.
  • ElfTwinkle was the leader in week 1, and did not re-appear at the top of the pile until the last week, week 27!
  • gtho4 was leader for 20 straight weeks, week 6 to week 26, and blew it in the last week.
  • this feat emulates that of Sarah606 in the NHL comp back in 2003-04. She was leader from week 9 to week 25 (that's 17 weeks straight), and lost it in the last week. The winner was ElfTwinkle .. again!
  • in that comp ElfTwinkle was NEVER in the lead until the 2nd last week, when she caught Sarah606 to tie for the lead, and won the comp in the final week by a point (same margin as her win in this year's Super League comp).
US Open : Men
  • the tipping comp was won by srini701, followed by LeoDaVinci and Howie72.
  • the defending title holder was srini701, who become the FIRST EVER to retain a tennis title!
    (we've had 28 of them from 2004 to 2007)
  • Sarah606 was 2nd last year, and LeoDaVinci was 3rd (silver medallist this year).
  • there were 12 runners this year, the most ever for this comp.
US Open : Women
  • the tipping comp was won by srini701, followed by paper_aero and ElfTwinkle.
  • last year's comp was won by LeoDaVinci, with ozzz2002 and KrivoyRog filling the minor placings.
  • srini701 becomes the 2nd person to win the men's and women's comp of ANY grand slam.
  • the first to win both was LeoDaVinci (Roland Garros last year).
  • another record: there were 12 runners this year, the most ever for this comp.
  • Grand Slam : this has been added as a new category to the Wall of Fame. No one has won all four grand slam events, men or women, or won 3/4. These two players ate theonly ones who've come close, with 2/4:
    2005 : LeoDaVinci : Men : Wimbledon + US
    2006 : LeoDaVinci : Women : French + US
    2007 : srini701 : Women : French + US
  • and a special mention for paper_aero: this is their 2nd podium finish!
    (and both are silver medals)
Record Book
  • consecutive weeks as leader:
    20 weeks : Super League : gtho4
    16 weeks : NRL : Nannanut
    12 weeks : AFL : buck5ley

  • Golden Woods:
    0/12 : FLC : doomed : week 2
    0/12 : FLC : doomed : week 4

  • most weekly winners:
    13 of 15 players were winners : iRB World Cup 2007 : 1st Round

  • most participants:
NFL 2007 : 22 : this may (hopefully) increase before the comp is over
The all-time record of 32 was set back 2003-04 for the UEFA Champions League, when silverginger called up a few favours, and engaged in some subtle arm-twisting; and promises of a few pints, or what-have-you. The comp was set up as 4 groups of 8 players, and threats of violence ensured the quota was filled. The comp that year was run like the FIFA World Cup (sort of like the head-to-head arrangement in the FT-PL comp).
E&OE

Once again, on behalf of all the participants, a special thank you to all the tipping comp organisers!

reminder:
golden woods in UEFA x5

not eligible, as GWs are 0/9 or higher. However, if
either of the 5 players score another GW, they'll
have their name up in lights .. as Platinum Woods.

Another month has gone by, another medals ceremony:

County Cricket
  • the tipping comp was won by paper_aero, followed by Howie72, and srini701 in 3rd place.
  • no defending titleholder - this was the first running of a tipping comp for county cricket in the UK.
  • for paper_aero this was his 3rd podium finish, and his first ever gold medal!
MLB
  • the tipping comp was won by gtho4, followed by ozzz2002 and srini701.
  • last year's comp was won by WorldB, with Sypher and gtho4 filling the minor placings.
  • this year was the 4th running of the MLB tipping comp .. no-one has successfully defended their title, and no one has won it twice.
  • of the 12 medals awarded in those 4 comps, dg_dave (gold in 2005) and WorldB are the only medallists from North America!
  • there were 17 runners in this year's comp, one short of the all-time-record 18 runners back in 2005.
Bathurst 1000
  • the tipping comp was won by paper_aero, followed by ElfTwinkle and gtho4.
  • Engadine won last year's comp, Plugger was 2nd, and ElfTwinkle came home 3rd.

I know this may sound ridiculous and may be tough to compile, but any chance of having a "gold-silver-bronze" medal table of combined tally so far for all players ?

man, that is one huge job!
After collating the podium finishes as 3-2-1 pts you'd then need to find the season long comps and (say) double the pts. Then, as some have been here longer than others, go back and count the number of comps entered for eahc and every player, and work out a strike rate .. how do you spell hari-kari!

Haha, I bet you I could probably do it over one day over the winter break. You just stick it in Excel, write a few macros, and let the computer do the counting. Then again, it's definitely not as easy as it looks...

Without bothering about strike rates or seasonal/long-term or short-term comps, I compiled a list of 1-2-3 finishes as they appear on the Hall of Fame and wall of Fame

Let me know if I can send it to somebody or if I can post the tally here in some way

FYI: Gtho4 is tops at the moment with 82 medals (26-29-27), followed by Elftwinkle with 73 (22-25-26) and Sypher with 62 (21-27-14)....

73 people have appeared on the podium so far!

Mate, I reckon you should post it in here, and give yourself a big pat on the back for being so brave/silly/bored.

Wow! Ok, I tried to bring some semblance to the table using the code, but once it comes to multiple names, the tabs are going If George can do something about this, great....if somebody thinks this is junk, please feel free to remove it too....

I went by "Olympic" count of giving higher places to people with more "golds/first places", otherwise Ozz2002 should actually be 4th in the standings!

If this table is fine with you all, maybe we can retain this and keep an overall count from here on

Terrific work, Srini! And thanks for highlighting the fact that my strike-rate of wins is rather pathetic.

Looks great, srini! Somehow on mine, it doesn't line up, but I can see everything. Well done taking the time to assemble all of those stats.

I'm not really sure about what these numbers represent, as I'm pretty sure that I made it to the Hall of fame more than once in all the weeks of my various tipping categories and I have certainly hit higher than 3rd place.
Just puzzled.

All of these numbers are where each player was at season's end. One can hit first, then end the season in fourth. Said person would not make the list.
