Well, Bruyere, maybe I should invest in a satellite dish and subscribe to some French TV channels. British TV on New Year's Eve is unspeakably dire - every terrestrial channel gathers together a collection of "celebrities" (i.e. people who are famous for being famous as distinct from having any talent), and they put on the kind of show that they wouldn't dare to risk if they thought the audience might be sober. Fortunately, there's always the BBCThird Programme (I refuse to call it "Radio 3"), which is repeating the last night of the Proms. We've had the "Pompous Circus Dance" already, and at present there's a lovely selection of songs by Richard Rodgers.
