That scoring method works for me, but it's going to be pretty hard to get a perfect 20/20.

It appears that some people have already found ways to cheat. Anyone taking the quiz under 100 seconds is obviously cheating, since I can easily read 2000 wpm and answering as quickly as possible, it still took me 209 seconds on the last history quiz.

Yep, I've already caught a bunch of cheaters. 18/20 in 53 seconds, indeed. lol. You cant even READ up to question 10 in that time, let alone answer 20 questions correctly.

Why do they bother?

It's really sad that people cheat. What is the point of taking a trivia quiz if you get rid of the challenge by cheating? Will some people never learn?
I just took my 4th Daily, and only scored about 550, but I don't care. I am doing it for fun. I did figure out that I need to get right to the questions, instead of reading that message about the timer running Reading that message messes with my time by a couple seconds.

Hiya...I am also enjoying the Daily Quiz, it's a great addition to QLand. Getting more than half right in less than five minutes was my goal...and I did it today!

Thanks for the daily brain energizer!

You have to wonder, huh? Looks like a few are still at it ... the whole quiz in 69 seconds? And scored 18? I don't think so! I did it pretty quickly (was cooking dinner) and it still took 191seconds.

My mouse is so tired from editing that even if I did miraculously know all the answers, I couldn't click that fast!

I love the aspect of chance...the same thrill that I get from getting my home town in a question in the French version of Trivial pursuit...I mean, I don't mind taking my lumps like in this game, but it's funny what pops up.

This is so much fun! I'm having to take forever to answer, because I do not have a Fast brain, but that's Ok, too. Thanks, Terry! It makes me want to hunt up some of these quiz makers and play their quizzes, too.

I will make the daily game for all purposes cheat-proof next week. Instead of there being one game, there will be 10-20 games generated daily. All players will be divided into one of these "divisions" randomly (and this allotment will change each day). All players in a division play the same questions for that day.

Also, tomorrow Im toning down the importance of timing a tad. Time penalty will now be 1 * seconds taken, instead of the current 2 * seconds taken. The max time taken cap will be increased from 250 seconds to 500 seconds. This will mean that accuracy is a little more important, but outright research will be infeasible.

That's a very good idea Terry, I think that would be best (to randomize the quizzes a bit). How will you account for difficulty level though? Is there a way to be sure that the questions chosen will have similar rates of accuracy vis-a-vis the % who have answered them correct in the quizzes from whence they came? Also, if you do 'randomize' it seems to me that you might lose the ability to create themed daily quizzes, especially if the plan calls for drawing questions from specific sub-categories (which would be a lovely idea).

Oooh goodo, I now have twice as long to panic

This is such fun,Terry...I'm so hopeless at it, give me a time penalty factor and I'm a quivering mess before I start.....most enjoyable nonetheless - a great addition, thank you

Already thought of that Jazz...

Think of it this way... each day there are 10-20 quizzes generated. Each of these 10-20 quizzes has its "topic of the day", much as the current quiz does. Also, questions over all 20 quizzes will have the same approximate difficulty level, as per Qland stats.

Each day, each player is assigned to one of these quizzes. If we have 1000 people playing, and 10 quizzes, there will be approx 100 people / division for that day. All 100 people in a divison are shown the same quiz, and they all answer the same questions. These 100 people then see ONLY those scores of players in their divison, and they are ranked against those players in their division.

Also, users coming from similar IP addresses will be forced into different divisions.

In other words, you'd need to use at LEAST 11 different accounts on an 11 divison day, or 21 accounts with 20 divisions, and you'd need to research approx 200 to 400 questions/day, and you'd somehow have to memorize answers for all of these questions AND enter them all in quickly. Without getting caught. We're already very proficient at detecting 2 accounts from the same user. No chance with 11+. Not going to happen.

The other method of cheating is to get a group of people across different IP domains to play the quizzes and post the answers on some mailing list or bulletin board. There would need to be at least 20 co-conspirators in such a scheme. Furthermore, a group working in this manner is quite easy to detect, as you get clear correlations between those who constantly score well and those who don't from similar IP addresses. Both difficult and pointless to organize and very easy to detect over a period of a couple of days, so it will not be a problem.

Terry

I love the Daily Quiz! It's so much fun! It's the first thing I do here after I check my mailbox.
Is there anyway that on the Answers from the Previous Day page, you could show us which ones we got right and which ones we got wrong?

That sounds good Terry. I must say though, the idea of 'divisions' is a bit disheartening. Does this mean that there won't be a general list of 'top scores'? It would be kind of boring if one has been tossed into the ring with a bunch of non-serious trivia players. Will you be disgarding the combined list of top scores? While we're on the subject, would it be possible to include the non-gold members in the general list (if it is to be kept)? Of course they wouldn't have access to it, but I'd still rather see how I'm doing against the entire population than just against gold members and fellow editors (the more the merrier).

Finally, do you see the potential for quizzes drawn from not only main categories, but major sub-categories as well? It would be fun to have an all world languages or all art quiz at some point.

I just worked out an easy way to do this. It should start to do this over the next couple of days.

Since I discovere the forums, I have not visited QuizzyLand much, but am enjoying doing the Daily quiz, but when I don't know an answer I use the rule either B or C and never more than three in a row.

I enjoy doing the daily quiz.
However, having completed one of the quizzes..I clicked submit and nothing happened, I tried again, using the same answers!, again nothing happened. After several attempts..all with exactly the same answers!!..and getting the same response or the message 'page unavailable' I gave up till later in the day. Needless to say having completed the quiz so many times I was able to whizz through the questions in double quick time. Am I to be maligned as a cheater then simply because it took so many attempts to submit my answers? I'm sure there are people out there who will stop at nothing to see their name at the top of the leader board but I'm not one of them!
