Maybe you can just get rid of the WWF questions. Those qs are so bizarre and most of us just randomly guess on them, so skill and knowledge are replaced with Moirae's blanket stare. The sheer variety of the questions seems interesting; I must sometimes come to a complete halt and try to recontextualize the question by looking at the author and the Quiz title,...
It might be interesting if there were some topical quizzes e.g. "Art" "Myth" os "Science" quizzes, at least in those cases we would know what to expect, ( hint hint) and our times would probably be under the 100 seconds mark, as well. Whining and pining, yes- I do however appreciate your efforts in the creation of these "daily babies" -that is if no one else hasn't already told you- thanks Terry!

The quiz in my division today contained two questions on the length of a human pregnancy. I thought the odds against that were pretty slim, but go show. P.S. It was a fun trivia mix quiz.

I managed to get, I think, four wrestling questions, on the quiz that popped up today, Entertainment. And what is more, instead of randomly guessing, I actually tried to answer them, thus taking too much time!
When I play Trivial Pursuit, I always pray for a benign pink question...not baseball scores or something, but today was like hitting it four times.
I do find it entertaining and fun to have those groups... You see, on the one hand I enjoy the random thing, but on the other, I do prefer having a chance to guess.
Now, I imagine people groan when they hit my language quizzes, so turnabout's fairplay!

Wrestling seems to have taken a hold on the questions Checking yesterday's Division 2 answers, 10 of the 20 questions were on wrestling (I thought WWF meant World Wildlife Fund, so you can probably guess how well I did on that one ) All good fun though

1) What's with all the American president questions?
2) What are "divisions"?

I think this is a great new addition but in order to create a level playing field, I think (despite the fact that my kids are Korean!) there should be no questions about Asian history, M*A*S*H, Asian art terms, Asian languages, the movie "Signs", Spike Lee films, or certain basketball teams that used to play out of New Orleans. Of course I am not thinking of any specific player who gets impossibly high scores and lives on the west coast.

I guess we were in the same division today LadyC. All those questions about American presidents really freaked me out! Especially when one question said something like "this is an easy question (....)". Not if you're Dutch! And then the question that consisted only of one name. What was the question to be answered?? Besides those presidents I love the new quiz format!

silhouette2, getting rid of wrestling questions would be just as wrong as getting rid of foreign language and Chinese history questions.
There are many questions that I just stare blankly at, namely Chinese history or foreign language questions, but I would never suggest not allowing them in the Daily quizzes or "getting rid" of them.
There are a lot of people who come to this site that love pro wrestling. Wrestling is a big part of people's lives and part of Funtrivia. What's fair is fair.

Several questions are difficult to answer because they're not really explained in the question - for example, "Wizard of Oz (1939)". From the intro to the quiz it might be clear that you're supposed to give the name of the studio, or the lead actress, or the author of the book from which it was adapted, but it can be tough to figure out (and sometimes the answers don't make it clear). Would it be worthwhile to filter out questions that don't end with question marks, or questions less than 5 words long, or something along those lines?

Perhaps if you took a little extra time you'd do better ... it takes me longer than 48 seconds to read the questions let alone think about it.

It's not the wrestling thing in itself, it's the nature of the questions popping up, so that even a specialist in the field couldn't stand a chance at a specific thing. In other words, a foreign language word far more people would actually stand a chance of guessing intelligently, but a specific wrestling match on a given day, few would be able to answer that. That's the only problem with the proportion of wrestling questions in the quiz that I took. Doesn't matter if it's wrestling or foreign languages or cooking or cricket, but the proportion of questions in a given quiz that matters.
If you were playing Trivial pursuit and your nemesis colour were pink, as it might be films and you're bad at those, it's like getting a series of six pinks. If your bugaboo is brown, or history, then it's the same.
Example, I'm good at a number of things in music, I edit there, yet, if I get four contemporary lyrics questions, I might not score highly at all. That's all there is to it.

I know nothing about wrestling, my knowledge of foreign languages is somewhat limited and as for......I could go on to list the many subjects that I know little or nothing about but it would take far too long. My point being; what's obscure to some is not to others. The phrase 'one man's meat is another man's poison' comes to mind. Isn't it the randomness (is that a word?) that adds to the fun, not knowing what questions are going to pop up? And when all is said and done, it is only a bit of fun. The fate of the world isn't going to be decided by the highest score, millions of pounds aren't at stake. It's just for fun.

Terry...two changes that I think would make for more interesting stats. First, make the 'daily game cumulative ladder' all-encompassing. I assume that this feature is only for the eyes of the gold-members, which is fine. But it's kind of boring to only see my stats as compared with my fellow gold members and editors when there are hundreds of other people taking the quizzes. How about making it so that gold members can see their scores in relation to all players, and not just gold members. The more the merrier I say (and also you could keep the link that just shows gold members, though it's not as descriptive of a person's performance relative to the overall population.) Second, how about cumulative statistics in terms of top 5 finishes in the divisions, kind of like the medal board that they keep for the Olympics. It would be interesting to see how, over time, each person has done in terms of achieving top scores within whatever divisions they have been placed. It could look like this:
Player 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Total
Coolupway 1 0 2 1 0 4 Vikan 1 1 1 1 0 4 Gtho4 0 1 1 1 1 4 Bruyere 0 1 1 0 1 3
etc. etc. (only better aligned)
Again, these statistics could be available only to gold members, and should be cumulative...to include the entire crowd and not just a select few.
What do you say?
