Whew, got science this morning, but there were some doozies in there...plus, I refuse to guess using darts as usual...so I took my lumps. Very good questions though..
Cris deserves a slap on the back for taking care of those sections so well...
At least I do a bit of reading in the general press on this stuff.
I'm also enjoying seeing people from QL and the forums meet here, and some of the names I've never encountered...Macchiabelly? Brilliant! This is the main thing that I'm enjoying is the interchange between people from both sides of the site.

How was question selection today? Any noticable improvement over last couple of days? I tried to filter out more junk.

There was a wider variety in my section today than yesterday. I lucked out and had Funtrivia Mix as my category two days in a row, but there was a better variety today. I don't know if it is just the way the questions fell or what, but I was pleased with it.

I really enjoyed today's quiz very much. It had questions from all kinds of categories. It was a lot of fun checking the answers for yesterday's quiz, too. Isn't it amazing the facts we'll remember--that we didn't know we knew in the first place?

Are some people actually getting quizzes from single categories? All three ofd mine have been FunTrivia Mix.

Yep Cris. 60% of the time you will get a mix. The other 40% you will get questions from a top-level category (Ent, Music, Sports, Animals, etc). Odds of 3 mixed in a row = 0.6 * 0.6 * 0.6 = 21%

Molly...I did notice that. The worst thing about it...it's taking me an average of almost 4 minutes to get through each quiz! I've got to stop agonizing over silly questions...

Terry...Yes, the questions have noticeably improved over the past couple of days, thank you. Is there any way to allow people to specifically opt out of taking quizzes from certain special categories? Maybe we could have a filter that will allow each player to select 2 quizzyland categories that they would specifically like to avoid...I know what mine would be already!

I thought the questions became better mixed too. Though it meant that I've got all kinds of stuff I knew nothing about. The interesting thing though is to get your own questions on the quiz. It's like a little treat

Yeah, unless it's a quiz you made years ago and don't remember the answer so quickly anymore!

Hey aren't we glad that the scores are not visible per question?

Well there is one poor quizmaker who might well be flooded with correction notices today! One question in my section offered four answers, none were correct as the Euro has taken over from so many European currencies! Presumably we get a point for giving the incorrect answer in this instance.

Terry, this is great fun--thanks. It's a good way to get a sampling of the variety of quizzes in Q-land. Thanks for providing a link to the source quiz on the answer page in case the question/answer/additional info piques your interest. Some questions on the mechanics:
  • Do all source quizzes have an equal chance at being chosen to provide a question?
  • What are your criteria for throwing out questions from those source quizzes?
  • Is the Daily Quiz reviewed by a human before being posted or is it all done by computer?
  • Does all this take up much computer memory?

Terry...perhaps you can reset the scores every month? It would seem pointless to let the scores keep rising into the stratosphere. I would suggest a 'hall-of-fame' and a monthly winner...or some such thing, and maybe a record somewhere of cumulative all-time scores. It would cease to be interesting, though, if the scores are simply piled on top of each other indefinately.

Also, a questions for the sports editors. Are all quizzes in that category either about football (soccer) or hockey? Sure seemed like it from the sports daily quiz I took last night!

My problem with the Sports quiz I got was too much basketball (sorry, jazz )! I'd have hoped to see some of the Formula 1 or baseball (or even ski jumping!) questions, but no such luck! Ah well, next time perhaps.

> Do all source quizzes have an equal chance at being chosen to provide a question?

All questions meeting certain criteria are candidates for selection on any day. Criteria: qn must come from a quiz that is online, qn must be of above average difficulty as scored in quizzyland, qn must come from a quiz played at least X times, where X changes by category (higher in movies & music, lower in science, animals etc).

> Is the Daily Quiz reviewed by a human before being posted or is it all done by computer?

It is entirely automated. I can leave for a month and the daily game will run itself.

> Does all this take up much computer memory?

Nope, it's actually an incredibly brilliant system The daily quiz is extremely lightweight on the system. It could easily support tens of thousands of players playing per day.
