Well this is very sad. The BG's harmonies accompanied me through most of my adult life and I truly liked the brothers! You can link to an informative site here..

We should hook this onto the end of the Keith Richards thread. The Bee Gees were always known for being rather wholseome fellows, unlikley to trash hotel rooms, get found unconscious with spikes in their arms, or turn up at parties in LA at which naked teenage girls OD, and yet here is poor Maurice checking out at 53. Meanwhile, Keith the undead, who has doubtless ingested, inhaled and imbibed enough scary substances to poison an entire ecosystem, still lives on (in his fashion) and is about to enter his seventh decade on the planet. There is no justice.

I just heard it on the French evening news.
I was just coming in to mention it to you.

this is sad news...I remember them fondly, as you probably know, harmony is the most important thing to me in music and we once spoke of brothers or brother sister acts and if the timbre of voice made the harmony easier for them.

Wasn't he one of the youngest ones?

Coolupway you couldn't have said it better, doesn't seem right.

I'd like to propose you mention a song of theirs that you liked, if you want.

"How Deep Is Your Love" would be my favorite.

Some of my favourites:
Don't Forget to Remember
I Started a Joke
Spicks and Specks
Words
Massachusetts

This is really sad for me. The Bee Gees music was such a large part of my early teenage years, I remember seeing them at a teenage dance in the city before they became famous, they were so young the twins were the same age as me.
What a great loss.
R.I.P. Maurice.

Has anyone heard the reports that his death maybe shouldn't have happened?
We heard some comments last night on the news, but I'm not sure the French got it right.

Thanks Lefois, I was just thinking of you as I made dinner with squash from Italy!
Listen, I read that passage, and ended up crying when I saw they were all living there near each other...in Florida...how touching when you could live anywhere in the world, and you choose to stay close to your brothers!

Well, Bruyere, I hope it was the Italian connection and NOT the shape of the squash that made you think of me as you prepared dinner!

I'm sure there will be more to discuss in the very near future. It's distressing and I'll keep you posted if I find anything else.

My dad owned Brisbanes first recording studio and made the Bee Gee's first demo tape back when they were starting out in the Brisbane suburbs as teenagers. Something he only told me about a few years back.

Heather, 'How Deep Is Your Love' would be my fave tune also.

I couldn't pick just one BeeGee's tune --- I love all their songs.

The music world will miss Maurice Gibb.

Sometimes I think about all the debates about music in those days, and what was too soft and what wasn't hip enough...and now it makes so little difference, does it?

Just like Karen Carpenter...I cannot listen to her either without thinking what a beautiful voice she had..

Karen Carpenter, she had the purest voice I've ever heard. I often wonder that if she was born in the 80's, would there be a place for her voice in this commercial rubbish market? Such a waste. She died at 30? At least she left us 100's of songs.

I think back to the charts in the 70's, when so many styles were forming, you would see the Bee Gees, Carpenters, Deep Purple, Led Zep, Little River Band, ACDC and Bread in the charts at the one time - so many styles were accomodated. Popular music is very sad now. There's a mix of styles out there but talented artists are hard to find and they don't get played. Damn you MTV!
