This is probably what I'm looking for, sounds like U2, but it's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'.

Couldn't resist this about Management:

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a man below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the man, "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is, technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip."

The man below responded, "You must be in Management."

"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault

Wow, 36

Try looking at it from another angle, did you want to go to this meeting? Did you enjoy the meeting or did you gain anything from it?

Not all meetings are a waste of time and effort. Tomorrow I have a meeting at 1 pm, sandwiches will be provided so we will work while we eat our lunch. I must say that I am thoroughly looking forward to the meeting and will not consider it time lost, I am not totally sure why I have been invited to this meeting, it is going to be very high-powered and I am not a very high-powered person. I just hope they have some sandwiches without mayonnaise.

I just noticed that bit about £5 per hours, kids won't work for that! Here the domestic help charge about £9.50 per hour. In a minute you are going to tell me that you can buy a three bedroomed house for less than quarter of a million!

The apparent cost of the meeting might be somewhat offset by the fact that 25 people are actually saving money by sitting around not using any resources up. Take a manufacturing company meeting for example. Those in the meeting are not driving the cars or other vehicles that might be necessary for company business, which is one heck of a saving. They are not using up company stationary. Neither are they using any other components that the company may need for day to day running and manufacturing.

I'm no mathematician but if the savings were all costed out I wouldn't be at all surprised if the entire £240 was recuperated by the fact that the 25 people were just simply having the meeting.

Of course there's always the possibility that not only would the meeting be self-funding but it could go into the area where the Company actually makes a profit by the savings it makes through the 25 people not using up resources. If this proved to be the case they should maybe have meetings all the time.

The meeting is tomorrow, or today, or yesterday.

For me, it's tomorow, no sandwiches, nor am I very high powered, but, if I don't go, it will be put in my personal record.

Sometimes a waste of time is just that, a waste of my ******* time.

nothing like a personal record.....

Sue, you're having a working, provided, lunch, with coffee.

I bet you, you achieve nothing, and will discuss most of it at the next meeting.

Or, the decision has already been made.

Why didn't I think of that, what a prat..

Meetings, for the sake of them, are useless, nothing is solved, apart from the listening.

What could I do with 2 hours free time, with expenses, and stay over?

Sue, IF I'm doing the math right (a really BIG if!), 5 pounds is roughly $8.00. Last time I cared, minimum wage here was $5.50, so---5 pounds an hour isn't a great wage, but not too shabby, either.

On the other hand, out here in the country (about a thirty minute drive to any place that sells alcohol or imported foodstuffs), we recently bought a 4-bedroom, 3-bath, 2700 square-feet brick house situated on 14 acres for $120,000.00. Payments run slightly more than one-quarter of my rocket-scientist boyfriend's monthly income, so we're not doing too badly. But he DOES go to a LOT of meetings!

5 pounds here in Australia is worth about $15! Thank you Pacific Peso.

Meanwhile, as for recouping losses on waste of time meetings, keep an eye out for a book called "Christie Malry's Own Double Entry". It is quite cool. The main character has an idea that he will keep a double-entry journal. On the debit side will be all the things Life does to him that are unfair, upsetting, annoying, unpleasant, etc. On the credit side are the things he does to get back at the world for the debits. An intriguing idea I reckon.

I think Sue's raised a very important issue. Why do meetings always have only sandwiches with mayonnaise? What's wrong with a nice plain cheese sandwich? Or ham?

We had many meetings in my French company, from grandiose style things, end of the year to explain why we wouldn't get sacked just yet, to the meetings where they explained how we'd get sacked.
But I enjoyed the meetings in America with foreign language faculty members who, though in the business of communication, proved to be the worse I've been privileged to see! I never saw such infants anywhere else!
Fortunately one boss was just a great communicator, he'd get you there, cut through the superficial stuff, then say, "let's have lunch guys..."
Just heard that he'd passed away, in life as in death, a great guy...un bon vivant.

Another meeting pet peeve is that, well, anyone noticed the male female dynamics in some places? I've even had to translate meetings like that...what a laugh afterwards!

Austrian meetings have more than just sandwiches, they had a lovely spread, the envy of any country..with the best bread assortiment imaginable...I trained there and was impressed.

First thing - Russ5, please don't delete your posts once they have been responded to. This is extremely irritating for everyone as the following posts don't make any sense.

Secondly, the meeting was excellent. Just five of us and it lasted one and a quarter hours. The sandwiches were also excellent, smoked salmon, beef salad, cheese and cucumber, ham, tuna (I think) and the dreaded prawns with mayonnaise! There was also fizzy water, fresh orange juice and a bowl of fresh fruit. A lot of ground was covered in the meeting, three of the five were extremely high-powered men and they are not accustomed to wasting time.

Please don't do this Russ - that initial post is now completely off topic and makes nonsense, even more nonsense, of the thread. If you can't put back what you deleted just leave it alone.

Well, this meeting was still a waste of ******* time.

Nothing achieved, meeting accomplished, 'every' meeting derives from some previous meeting, therefore, 'one' should be able to anticipate the 'next'.

Therefore, when the next meeting is due, fill your diary.

I went to talk to my friend, the shepherd.

Oh yeah, there still isn't food.

Or coffee

3 days without a meeting - thank you.

I'm replying to myself.

Drying my boots and hoping that I can wake up with daylight.

Another meeting next tuesday, what's the point?

Doesn't resolve anything, meetings are generally about money, (finances), sandwiches are a bonus, someone has to make them, just for you.

Time is being wasted again.

Not your time, unless you're reading this, just time in general, I am the world's greatest exponent of time...

To Russ, regards..

Wet and cold, please disregard this, just thinking...

Go away, just glad to be somewhere 'lost' in a thread, 'tis mine after all.

Any thoughts?...

I believe that meetings are beneficial, but only to the people who organise them..

Otherwise, I'd rather be somewhere else, a long way a way..,

just me, an atom within a molecule, but still too busy,

I honestly cannot justify a meeting...I have better things to do..when someone says 'tempus fugit', I'm losing time to boredom..

Still my thread, still talking to me............

There's a thread about god, 2, at least...

Pascal in Pensees, throws a thought. What if you don't believe in god, (or whatever gods you want to mention).

Live your life, and never believe, be an aethiest, then when you die and there is no god, you're happy, that's what you expected.

But die, and there is a god, and you're laughing, expect the worst, get a better deal, can't lose...

Still my thread...

An aethiest is a religious terminology, so, if you aren't relgious, what constitutes a non believer, not aethiest.

How about 'non-christian'?

There is one god, for the christians, but there are 30 million for Hindus...

Meetings will always come before any 'god'

I ramble on my own thread...

There is a god, but I don't spell it that way, or describe it like that...

Keep talking russ, it's your thread...................

Aethiest.

You can only be one if you don't believe in god, and you're a christian.

So, I'm not a christian, I don't believe in christianity,

If I'm not an aethiest, what am I?

Got It, "Disbeliever".......

Not even for funerals, sorry.

I'm not going to be dragged into religious beliefs here

But if anyone 'brings it up' somewhere else, then they shouldn't have eaten so much of the stuff, It's not healthy
