I just heard on BBC World News that a British policeman has been stabbed to death during a raid on a flat in Manchester (England) while ferreting out a group of suspected terrorists, probably North African/Algerian. The newscast indicated that there is much investigation and many such raids being carried out throughout Europe at the present time......another fine life lost trying to keep our world safe........

Oh dear. This is the third raid on premises in England within about a week with people being arrested on terrorist charges. The poison ricin has been found. The ricin was found in London and some people were arrested in Bournemouth, now Manchester - certainly well spread around the country.

Here is the link to the story that you have just mentioned, it is connected with the find of ricin

My heart goes out to the family of that brave policeman who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his countrymen. It is my understanding that a terrorist group had intended to release a small but lethal dose of nicin intended to kill about a dozen people but more importantly to strike fear into the heart of London.

My sincerest condolences.

I am thankful that there are men and women willing to put their lives at stake to protect the rest of us. It is sad that this man and so many others have lost their lives. My heart goes out to his family, friends, coworkers and community.

Manchester is just getting worse than ever for violent crime. Actually, not just Manchester, but Britain as a whole. You could argue that the police were negligent in not handcuffing the suspect, but murder is unjustified anyway.

They say the reason the men weren't hand-cuffed was because they couldn't put them into forensic suits that way. That being the case they ought to get some suits that can be put on with the hand-cuffs on which will still allow leg movement.

Also, the policemen might expect a suspect to attempt an initial fight to escape arrest but would never expect a knife attack an hour after the game was up, as was the case here I believe.

What a terrible way to learn a lesson.

Can someone please explain to me how cuffing a suspect can destroy forensic evidence? This is what I just heard on the BBC News. A spokesman said that the suspects were not cuffed because it would have destroyed forensic evidence. Well, they ended up losing something a lot more precious than forensic evidence now, didn't they? What a sad screw up.

blue...it would sound to me like they were going to put them into some sort of protective suit to retain any forensic evidence that might be on their clothing? And this couldn't be done with the cuffs on. telly's right. Design a suit which can be put on a cuffed suspect while leaving the legs ambulatory. This is all just plain sad.

....yeah, sister dear, but leave them standing around without a policeman guarding them and standing within grabbing distance of a knife.......come on now........I heard the suspects had been standing around for at least an hour before this happened.
