A radio station in the UK ran a competition in which three people ended up in hospital for more than eight weeks. The radio station is being proscecuted, perhaps understandable, but what I cannot for the life of me understand is why these people put themselves at risk this way, they must be absolutely stupid. They sat on sat on "dry ice" - frozen carbon dioxide - a substance with a temperature of -78C (don't ask me what that is in Fahrenheit), didn't it occur to them that it would damage them?

Does –108.4F sound right?

That is nuts!

I don’t blame the station, though. Unless they were forced to be stupid, it is the contestants’ faults that they ended up in the hospital.

If they knew it was that cold, why stay?

I know, it's something to do with cryogenics, they're test driving and failed.

Patanjali, where are you?

These people could do with you now...

I'd say it's a 50/50 split on who's responsible. Yes, these people were idiots for doing the stunt in the first place. But, the radio station shouldn't have put them up to it. When I was in radio, we were forbidden from enticing our listeners to do dangerous things for prizes. My boss, the stations owner, didn' want the liability or a possiblilty of a lawsuit. Radio stations have been held accountable for such things in the past. Just last year, two DJ's in New York were fired for enticing a couple to have sex in a Catholic Church. I think the DJ's were just as responsible as the people.

Yes Lanni, that does sound about right. If they are stupid enough to sit on it they deserve a frozen backside, greed, sheer greed.
