In high school I was the assistant for my cousin, a part-time magician (who was also in high school). Though my hands are too small for most sleight-of-hand tricks, I did on occasion produce large spherical foil bouquets out of thin air, turn balloons into doves, turn doves into rabbits, and produce Santa hats from empty boxes, among other things. These were stage illusions, of course, so there was also a lot of work behind the scenes, and of course there wasn't a very big budget at all! (We played mostly nursing homes.) It may not make a good stage illusion, but it
is a trick being a roadie in four-inch heels.
I was also a member of the
Society of American Magicians, which has an excellent youth outreach program. If you can manage to get involved, perhaps attend a convention or two (there are regional ones as well as an annual national one, and there are separate contests for young up-and-comers -- I don't know how old you are, but it sounds like you're just starting out), you may find it worth your while.
Good luck!
p.s. I can't tell you how any of our illusions were done, unfortunately ... part of joining a magical organization is signing an oath to keep your lips sealed. I imagine that extends to my typing fingers too.
