I heard on the news tonight that future copies of 'Abbey Road' are going to be 'computer enhanced' to eliminate the cigarette in Paul's hand on the cover.
What a crock of the proverbial! Aside from the fact that there are already about a gazillion copies of the album in circulation, this smacks of extreme pettiness. Are people going to start editing smoking scenes out of all the classic movies? Will Groucho Marx and George Burns tapes be butchered so that the trademark cigar can't be seen?
I have never smoked, but I think it's time that certain 'do-gooders' took a long, hard look at themselves.

Is nothing sacred?
I mean, is this the trend that the actor or film director started who'd been portrayed as a smoking macho (or had portrayed actors) and regrets it now as he's got lung cancer?
I understand the sorrow and guilt someone must feel now...as Yul Brynner had that bone chilling commercial saying he was going to be dead by the time we saw the commercial..;but erasing things from pictures?
Sounds like a warped Star Trek episode of alternative histories!

I quite agree. I understand the whole feeling of not wanting to influence anyone in a negative way but if people are going to start erasing history we are certainly on a slippery slope. I had just read about this today and I did have a chuckle at the newspaper columnist that brought it to my attention. She too thought that this was petty and political correctness gone mad. She then went on to write that, in this way of thinking, she felt that walking barefoot across a dirty London street raised all sorts of hygiene issues. There are all sorts of germs, not to mention the danger of sharp objects piercing ones sole causing a nasty infection and anyway you could catch your death walking about with no socks and shoes. So in the spirit of not wanting to influence anyone to do anything that may be hazardous to their health, they should airbrush some shoes on Pauls feet. Sound silly? A resounding yes!

Good grief! Isn't it bad enough that we've had to put up with 40 years of dodgy Beatles covers (no pun intended, I meant cover versions of Beatles songs )? Now they actually want to deface one of the classic album covers of all time? And for what - political correctness? Someone kill these jugggernaut, it used to just annoy me, but now it's a little too powerful for its own good!

When are they going to realise that you can change the future, and maybe even the present, but you cannot change the past!
What next? Taking Sir Walter Raleigh out of the history books, and pretending that he never existed, simply because he introduced tobacco to the world at large???

Question, does it have to do with Sir Paul's new wife?

Quite possibly H........

Ooops, I've just realised she shares your moniker.

Maybe she had more than a passing influence on the reversal of the listing of the greatest songwriting duo of all time? i.e. McCartney and Lennon as opposed to Lennon and McCartney?

Anyhoo, I'm just off to tuck into my chips and fish with lashings of vinegar and salt.

Still believing the liscence plate on the VW Bug on the cover was a touch prophetic.

Of course, If we retroactively aribrushed Yoko out of the scenario that ensued a short time later, maybe the Beatles would have stayed together another couple of decades.

I see it now...but have you ever thought of what if the lyrics that were even the least bit drug related were remixed? I mean, half the records would disappear?
