For anyone that's interested, Melbourne (in Victoria, Australia) experienced a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celcius (111F), after an overnight low of 26.8 degrees Celcius (80F).

Also, many more fires broke out in our state today, along with the current inferno occuring in North-Eastern Victoria. Melbourne's temperature today is the second hottest on record, and the overnight minimum was also the second hottest recorded.

37 in Hobart today - which is very hot for this part of the world! I love the heat, but not when there are fires around. Smoke everywhere but fortunately for us, no fires in our area. 22 and some rain forecast for tomorrow - hope it eventuates. i know the forecast isn't so good on the big island - hope its not too bad where you are!...this graemlin is the closest I could find to a sweaty one!

I cannot comprehend what temperatures like that could feel like, your nighttime low would be considered to be hot as a daytime high temperature here.

I have my fingers crossed for scads and scads of rain for you all down there, I will do a little dance for you

Oh my, stay cool all of you...I lived in the valleys of California...especially the capital city..and we had 114 once in the summer and I rode my bike around...but when you put your thongs on the pavement, you'd hear a hiss...we also took an egg out and put it on the sidewalk..it works!

I don't miss those temps...

THe humid heat in the Southern States was really hard to take too...had to wait til nightfall to bring my baby home from the hospital there...even a 100 would feel uncomfortable.

We sometimes---rarely, but sometimes---have temps like that here in northern Alabama. The daytime high is a couple of degrees hotter than we regularly have, but a nighttime low of 80 F isn't at all unusual. And right now I'd gladly swap---it was 3.6 degrees F night before last, and it's been below freezing for several days running. I'm going to need to take out a second mortgage to pay the heating bill!
