On the recommendation of my daughter away at college, I have just viewed Bowling for Columbine, a documentary from last year by Michael Moore, which explores gun ownership and violence in America.

I found it extremely thought provoking, and having no one around here to discuss it with at the moment, I thought I'd post and see if any other members had viewed it, and if so, what were their thoughts?

It just finished now, so I want to think about it some more.

I have heard about this film and seen Michael Moore talking about it and would love to see it. Haven't seen it advertised at any cinema's near here so i suppose I will have to wait for the video. (must remember to check for release date)

Michael Moore has appeared on UK television several times recently and he seems to talk a lot of sense, he also has a website with some interesting stuff on it too. Anyone who is against guns seems good to me!!!

I have heard so much about this and am desperate to see it as I have seen a lot of Michael Moores work and it is marvellous stuff. It did not go on general release here and we do not have much access to "Arthouse" cinema here. There is a cinema club but it is frequented by a bunch of people that you would do your best to avoid even if they were an ageing relative who may possibly leave you a fortune in their will. I am waiting with baited breath for the video release and with equally baited breath for the view of the clerk at my local video store who tries with all his might to talk you out of renting a movie that does not have a huge body count involved. It always makes my day when I ask for a particular foreign movie and he presumes it is a movie of a erm... particular kind.

Callybub...this documentary can be downloaded from Kazaa.
You will need to install a DivX bundle, too. It takes forever to download, but it's worth it.

Just saw "Bowling for Columbine". As an American expat who has three friends that have been involved in gun incidents I found the movie amazing!

Be advised it is very graphic, as should be expected from the subject. It is chilling. It answers none of the questions but it puts them out there to be explored.

I found it very timely and thought provoking. I would recommend it to everyone but you must understand that as it investigates the "gun ethos" in America it is very graphic in parts.

If only we could find answers to why so many Americans resort to guns.

cheers

Oprah was about this show this afternoon and I found it totally interesting. Of course it didn't show the whole doco but did show some compelling parts. There is a bank that gives away guns to people that open new accounts? That just seemed beyond the realms of sensibility. And the figures as to how many peole die due to guns compared with other countries is staggering.

Any Americans want to give an insight as to the gun issue?
