On Valentine's Day, if you curl up on the couch, with or without a sweetie by your side, which movie{s} would you like to watch to compliment the mood of that day?

Does it have to be a romantic movie, or a love story with a happy ending, or do you prefer a good cry and some tragic or unrequited love? Which movies capture your Valentine's Day mood best?

Lefois, is Madison County better than its book? God, that bored me to tears!

My favourite romantic movie is Emma. The storyline is similar to how my sweetie and I got together.

If I had to, it would be either Pride & Prejudice or Much Ado About Nothing. Just to remind myself that if I can't find a Mr Darcy or Benedick (or, indeed, a Colin Firth or Kenneth Branagh) I'd rather be single!

PS - If anyone happens to know a Mr Darcy or Benedick, let 'em know I'm available !

Oh yes tanzen, you are a person after my own heart. Mr. Darcy and Benedick yes. Equally, Colin Firth and Brannagh yes. Oh it is the ideal but not the reality. If I knew anyone of the calibre of any of the aforementioned I might be reluctant to share for fear of competition. I will cite Brief Encounter as a more likely scenario, at least from my point of view.

How about the 1940's romancer "That Hamilton Woman!", possibly the best film Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier starred in, "Two For The Road" with Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney, perhaps a romantic screwball comedy such as a Preston Sturges opus, especially "The Lady Eve" or "The Palm Beach Story", maybe the Lubitsch classic "Ninotchka", and for something really different, try the Hawks version of "The Big Sleep". Hey, Bogie and Bacall are the hard-boiled icons of Valentine's Day!
