The first is Vanity Fair’s comical advice columnist, Barry Humphries, who wrote an article called, “Forget Spanish.”

In it he said, "There's nothing in that language worth reading except Don Quixote, and a quick listen to the CD of `Man of La Mancha' will take care of that . . . Who speaks it that you are really desperate to talk to? The help? Your leaf blower? Study French or German, where there are at least a few books worth reading, or, if you're American, try English."

While it was meant as a joke, some Latinos felt that was a bit of a slap on the face, particularly since Mexican-born Salma Hayek was on the cover of that issue of the magazine.

Hayek is among those who wrote the magazine expressing her outrage.

The second offender is the host of the O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly, who said the term “wetback” during a discussion on illegal aliens.

“Wetback” is a disparaging term used towards Mexicans who have entered the U.S. illegally.

In his defense O’Reilly stated that he was “groping” for a word.

Perhaps the words “Mexicans,” “Hispanics,” or “illegals” escaped his mind.
