OK, I screwed up the last posting, not enough attention to detail. I am looking for the meaning of the names

AXA (French insurance company, probably meaningless)
Cap Gemini (Parisian management consultant, now worldwide, merged with Ernst & Young).
Adamsez (toilets) owned by Adams family, -ez suffix still of uncertain origin.

As pointed out in earlier reply, Tricentrol is Trinidad Central oils.

From http://www.axa.com/navigation/nav/mainframe.asp?id=7 and then click on each year of history:

In 1816, Mutuelle de l'Assurance contre l'incendie is founded in Paris. The following year, Ancienne Mutuelle begins operations. In 1978 Ancienne Mutuelle changes its name to Mutuelles Unies. Beginning in 1982: the pace of external growth begins to accelerate. Mutuelles Unies aligns with Drouot, strengthening its positions in the life and property-casualty insurance markets. 1985: A consensus is reached: the Group needs a shorter
and more upbeat name. It should start with an "A" so that the Group is first inlists and directories, and it should be easy to pronounce in every language, since the Group has international ambitions. AXA thus becomes the corporate name of Mutuelles Unies-Drouot.

See also www.sunlifeint.com/generic/company/axagroup/intro.htm which seems to be a copy of the official AXA website. Once they settled on A as the first letter, they probably used a dartboard for the middle letter.

Wonderful! Where do you get the information, as even Cap Gemini over here didn't know!
What about EMAP? Virtually the last on my list now.

By the way, Adamsez is just their way of spelling Adams's.

EMAP comes from the East Midlands Allied Press Ltd. See http://www.competition-commission.org.uk/fulltext/312c2.pdf

You mentioned Mutuelles Unies-Drouot. I wonder why they chose AXA and not MUD.

Isn't Adamsez just a phonetic spelling of 'Adams' s' as in 'it's the Adams's factory'?

You're right wajo, it was a theory for ages but until they recently went online, I couldn't find how to confirm it. It is now officially correct.
