Hi there,
I have a request...
I am currently writing a book together with my cousin. It's nothing special, just for fun, but I'd like to be as precise as I can... The story is set in Miami at a high school, and I was wondering if someone could give me some information about school in Florida. Being a German, I don't know much about the American school system.. Can someone give me a completely average timetable of a high school student who is about to graduate, including an English literature class, physical education, biology and mathematics? I'd be very grateful, and if we are ever going to publish that novel, I'll surely include a thank you side note
I might come up with more questions, but for now, that's enough.
Thanks already!

I go to school in New York, not Florida, but I'll try to help you. In high school there are four grades, 9th (freshman), 10th (sophmore), 11th (junior), and 12th (senior). We don't wear uniforms at most public schools, like many schools in Europe require. A typical schedule for a senior would include governemnt, economics, an English class, physical eduction, a history class (probably European or US), a foreign language, (in Florida, most likely Spanish, maybe French), Math, (pre-calculas), science (physics), an art or music class, and a lunch break. A typical school day may be 8 am through 3pm. There are extra-curicular clubs and sports. In Miami the students would probably be able to eat their lunches outside and there may be many buildings in the school, insted of just one larger one. I hope I could help, and let us know how you make out with that book.

Thanks a lot; I already thought that no one was going to reply! Since the system has kept logging me out in this thread, I sent you a private message with another question, but I will repeat it here for everyone:

If you are going to school in the US (I suppose there are not too many differences from state to state), would anyone, preferably a senior, mind sending me their schedule? You don't need to do it here but can send me private message. I would be VERY grateful! I just want to know what a perfectly average schedule looks like, how many times a week you have a certain subject, and so on.

Another question, which is not about school, has recently come up when my cousin and I were discussing how to go on with the story. What are typical jobs for 18-year-olds in the US? Where do they work (if they do)? Would it be possible for an eighteen-year-old girl to work in a bar, for example? I seem to remember that you're only allowed to drink alcohol if you are over 21, but does this include "soft" alcoholics like beer, too? And how does a party go then, if there's no alcohol?
Oh God, so many questions... Please help me just a little... my cousin and I want the book to be as realistic as possible
