I'm not much of a music fanatic... I didn't actually watch the Grammys, but since she's a local celebrity I just had to check to see if Avril Lavigne had won any of the five awards she was up for.

Thankfully, she didn't. I'm glad the world has that much sense!

Anyway, that's my rant! What did you think of this year's Grammys? Did your favourite artist win anything? Do you agree with the judge's decisions?

Bon Jovi lost to No Doubt for Best Pop Performance. I wanted to turn it off right then.

I was pleased to see that UK bands had a little success with two awards for Coldplay and one for Dirty Vegas (both big favourites of mine).

I have to confess that until last week I had never heard of Norah Jones and still haven't heard any of her music - can anyone tell me what type of music she sings??

Nora Jones has a fine voice. The songs I have heard are a mix of blues and jazz. She sings with a melody I haven't heard since Carole King. I just hope she doesn't go all 'pop' on us now..

Start with a song - "don't know why" it's probably a great example...

"Don't Know Why" is Norah Jones' best song on the album
the rest of the album, while great, is weak for her.
mostly country style tunes, with some pop thrown in.

I think that she is awesome
someone with a powerful beautiful voice
songwriting skills
and the ability to play piano.
she studied for a few years at the Texas Conservatory
where she grew up. Mostly jazz and classical training.

John Mayer won...that's good
Michelle Branch won
I like seeing songwriter/singers win.
not a big fan of packaged pop like BSB or N*sync or Christina or Britney

I agree with Lil Spikey. I didn't see the Grammys...I went to the Bon Jovi concert in Atlantic City instead.

John Mayer is the man of the moment.. toured small venues in Oz, but at least he came. He's a fine guitarist who I get the impression 'just wants to play his guitar'

Singing is something he needs to do to be heard. Either way I reckon he's bloody good listening.

I was happy that the Dixie Chicks won. And also thankful that Avril didn't win. Avril is a poser in my eyes. "I'm so punk and yet I sing pop music' ok what??? Who does that?? And ok, socks are made for your feet! If God intended them to be put on your arms, he would have done that! Ok, got my anger out.

I watched it, and I'm yet again surprised at how bad popular music is nowadays. Until the Grammys, I was under the impression that Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne and Vanessa Carlton were all the same person. Boy is my face red now. Sheryl Crow once again proved that she has no voice. Eww, that was painful. Another reason I'm thankful the 'mute' botton was invented. Dixie Chicks were alright. However, my humble opinion, Smashing Pumpkins did a much better cover of Landslide. Bruce Springsteen is looking and sounding more and more like Bob Dylan. And while I didn't count, I think Eminem grabbed his crotch more times than Michael Jackson did at the end of his Dirty Diana video.
