A question in the Trivia Challenge was about the Four Tops, various sites say they are the longest surviving group (with original line up of singers taking into account the death of one of the originals) http://www.history-of-rock.com/four_tops.htm gives the history. Does anyone know of a group that can beat that record. There are a number of groups in the UK touring as for example "Gerry and the Pacemakers (Don't think any of the current backing group were originals), and I know the Searchers changed only one in their line up and that was 25 years ago(according to their stage act!)

How about the Glenn Miller band? I don't know how many are originals (obviously Glenn offers his apologies these days!), but they are still touring the world, 60+ years on.

Are not The Rolling Stones one of the longest surviving groups, they must have been together for well over 40 years and they still have most of the main core from the original line-up only Bill Wyman(retired) and Brian Jones(dead)are missing

I was wondering if they knew they would all be using pacemakers in later life when they named the band!!

I am not a music buff so I could be wrong but wouldn't the Australian group, The Seekers, be a candidate for this?

They've been around since the 60's and are still performing (there's a concert coming up in Perth soon) and still the original line-up of four. Judith Durham dropped out of the group for a while due to a car accident, I believe, but is back now.

I love their music and I particularly like the way they do "We Are Australian" (it should be our national anthem in my humble opinion).

A friend of mine, who is a real music buff, just stopped by for coffee. He went to the Seeker's concert last night. We were discussing this topic and he said that at the concert, they announced that the Seekers were the longest surviving group with the original line-up, apart from Peter, Paul and Mary (who are still performing apparently). If Maurice Gibb had not died recently, however, the longest surviving group would have been the Bee Gees.

The Blind Boys of Alabama have been around since 1939 and still have 3 original members with the group. This year they won their 2nd consecutive Grammy for best traditional soul gospel album. Did i mention they sound awesome? They do!
