This one came in yesterday, on a a multiple choice question - "you spelt Beni wrong". Benny was one of the incorrect answers! I spared the author the heartache of reading the note, and zapped it.

I wrote a quiz from Draco Malfoy's point of view, and one of the questions was what is my friend Goyle's first name. I gave the options of Greg, Garg, Vincent and Buster. Because I never gave an option of Gregory, someone wanted to pull the quiz. I suppose my joke answer of Garg Goyle was wasted on them.

Lol. I love joke answers and try to use them whenever I can. I always get a chuckle when an author uses a clever joke answer that may be lost on some quiztakers. Sometimes you have to be alert to actually "see" the joke, such as the one posted above. It makes the quiz more enjoyable for me though. Sometimes I'll even waste a better "incorrect" answer just to try to get a zinger in there lol. On quizzes using names, I often use the names of my friends as "incorrect" responses. If or when they actually play the quiz they get a kick out of seeing their name in it.

I seem to have been lucky most of the time, yet I've also received two or three rather rude (correction) notes. I remember one person replying to one of my Degrees of Separation quizzes "Maybe you should go out and see some good movies... something without Ryan Phillippe or Love Hewitt". It was not really abusive, but very very picky, and especially in these quizzes it does not automatically mean that you put your favorite movies in there.
Another note I received was on a Harry Potter quiz, "A Student At Hogwarts", which is a little different and also requires some knowledge of the characters in question. Most of the quiz-players like it, as I get a lot of compliments, but one note said, and I quote:
"This quiz is stupid. There are no clear answers possible. I suggest you edit this - FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I suppose it was a quizplayer who got some of the "different" answers wrong and wanted to take out her mad on me. I didn't do anything about it, as my quiz hasn't been rejected by any editor and no one else ever complained about it. But of course does such a note hurt me a little...
I also agree with the point mentioned above - it's SO annoying when some player sends a correction note on a thing which is actually correct! Moreover, I can't get online every day, and a few weeks ago, one of my quizzes was put offline "due to a player-reported error" which was actually incorrect.
I personally avoid correction notes as much as possible and call it a suggestion note, and I never rush in saying things like "that's wrong" or something... I always start with something positive like "I liked this quiz, but Qx confused me a little" or things like that. It's just more polite, and moreover, I appreciate the work each quizmaker does! There's no such thing as a "Totally stupid" quiz. At least I haven't come across one yet, and if I had, I surely wouldn't have said that so.
And yes, I also answer to every note I receive, be it correction or compliment. But I didn't answer to that note I quoted above. Probably because I would have been slightly rude myself...

You are right there Kuu. It is a cloak, but you had to change it to a cape. That is not correct. If there was an editor who is good at "The Lord Of The Rings", he or she would know it's a cloak.

^^^ AndySeven13, I think the words are interchangable, that a cape is a cloak and therefore I can use the word cape and be right.

It is like the word 'pants' and 'trousers'. If I asked the question 'What colour were Frodo's trousers?', it would be the same as asking 'what colour were Frodo's pants?'

And some of the editors are 'good' at LOTR, just as I am good at LOTR (at least as far as the movies go, and my quiz was about the movies). They seem to have no complaints about my choice of words.

Kuu, unless the word has some sort of significance in the movie, I see no problem using either alternative. I am NOT one of the aforementioned expert LOTR editors, but I know that a cloak and a cape are different words for the same article of clothing.

I agree Ozzz2002, but AndySeven is the second person who seems to think that this is significant.

If that is all that can be found wrong with my quiz, I guess I should be grateful for that.

There is an old proverb that I think is rather appropriate to this thread.

"A difference that makes no difference is no difference at all."

How about you delete both words, and call it a 'mantle'..

I am one of the Literature editors and I agree with what Ozzz has said above. I am not a LOTR fan but I have seen the movie and read some of the book (couldn't finish it no matter how hard I tried). To the best of my recollection, there is no significance in the use of the words "cloak" or "cape".

The original question makes the correct answer perfectly clear. If I had been the one to edit this quiz, or deal with the subsequent correction note, I would not expect Kuu to modify the quiz.

I know this site is called FunTRIVIA but the original criticism is just too, too TRIVIAL to be taken seriously.

Sorry to muddy the waters again Kuu, but Brits wear their pants under their trousers.

It's a funny old world!

Well in Australia 'pants' can be 'trousers' and what we wear under them are undies, underpants, boxers, briefs, underpants, knickers etc

True. There is both cape and cloak in "The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers" for Game Boy Advance.

Linda, I have a question. I just received a snippy correction notice myself. Rather than waste my time replying to the quiz taker, I sent a note to the editors saying that the quiz taker is wrong. I also told them I felt the correction was a tad on the rude side. I didn't get the quiz taker's name because as soon as I finished my note to the editor, the correction notice disappeared. Will the editors look into it or should I have copied down the person's name?

You can find the note again by clicking on the title of the quiz and then on 'quiz notes.'

Have a look at the Quiz Notes attached to the quiz itself. All corr notes still exist, until an Editor deletes corr notes by hitting a Clear Notes button in their Ctrl Panel.

Kuu, you'll never find a more fanatic LOTR fans than me--of the books or the films. I have LOTR movie stuff setting everywhere--boxed Ringwraith with a horse with red-lighted eyes, dolls, figurines, etc.---and I'm going to say to you:

If I have no problem with you using Cape in regards to LOTR, I don't know why anybody else would. It's never even referred to as either in the film, is it?

Soooooo...the only way I'm ever sending a correction on a LOTR quiz (book or movie) is if somebody says something like: Gandalf was a hobbit.

And izzi, I found out from an English friend that saying: You need suspenders to hold up your pants, means a totally different thing from here to there!

Just wanted to add something -- Indie, it seems as though you wrote your note to the editors in the "Not an Error" box, right? We will see that, eventually, when we go through the corr notes for our categories, but if you want to bring a matter to our immediate attention you should also send us a note through Quizzyland mail (i.e. the box at the top of your mailbox saying "Send a Note to ...") or private messages in the forums. It's definitely good to say something in the NaE box, but sending us a note in addition would help us address the matter more quickly.

Also, something I want to add... If someone ends you a correction and they're wrong, please hit 'reply' and tell them why they are. And if you keep getting the same correction notices over and over, that's a pretty good indication that you should add something to the interesting info ection explaining why yours is the correct answer.

Just clicking on 'not an error' won't do anything as that player may send more corrections to other quizzes (or even re-send the one to you) because they don't know they are wrong.

I was going to do that. But, considering that the last line of the correction was "Don't tell me I'm wrong." I decided it wasn't worth the argument. I'm going to copy the correction notice and send it to directly to an editor in that category.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I've never understood why some people seem to take it as an insult when they dislike something about a quiz, or appear to take it as a triumph that they found a mistake. None of the people, including myself, who write these quizes are trying to ruin their day. I occasionally play a quiz that I'm not that impressed by, but that's no reason to call the quizmaker a naughty name. I'm also a firm believer that if I think there's an error, I send a suggestion, not a correction, unless I think the editor would benefit from seeing the info.

Perhaps I'm just too caught up in that do unto others as they do unto you thing.
