These are mostly to do with the UK music charts and I am at a loss. Thanks for the help.

4. I Talk To The Trees sung by Clint Eastwood was the B-side of which American actor's only U.K. hit single?

5. What was the name of the group, led by a Scottish singer who had two sons who later achieved rather more chart success, whose only U.K. hit single was a cover of a Bob Dylan song in 1965?

9. Name the group whose only U.K. hit single, a cover of a Lennon/McCartney song, lost the race to the top of the chart to a version by Marmalade.

11. Which American singer had his only U.K. hit single in 1981, a year after he died at the age of sixty one?

12. Name the British entertainer whose only U.K. hit single was a cover of a song that had been a hit for The Shangri-Las in 1965, 1972 and again in 1976.

22. Name the group whose only U.K. hit single was also the title of an album by Big Brother and the Holding Company.

25. Which American singer's only U.K. hit single, written by Joe South, was also a hit for New World?
27. Born in Chicago in 1947, whose tragic death at the age of thirty one ended the career of the singer whose only U.K. hit single had reached No. 2 in 1975?

29. Who, having debuted on his uncle's radio show at the age of eleven, had his only U.K. hit single in 1965 with his version of a Joe South song?

30. Born in Limerick, Ireland, which BBC Radio Two presenter had his only U.K. hit single in 1978

25. Which American singer's only U.K. hit single, written by Joe South, was also a hit for New World?

it's probably Rose Garden by the C&W singer Lynn Anderson, back in the late 60s early 70s .. New World were an Aussie band, who also had a hit with the same song

12. Name the British entertainer whose only U.K. hit single was a cover of a song that had been a hit for The Shangri-Las in 1965, 1972 and again in 1976.

that has to be Leader Of The Pack, but no idea whose cover version is the answer to the question

the song has to be Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da but I've got no idea who did the other cover version

29. Who, having debuted on his uncle's radio show at the age of eleven, had his only U.K. hit single in 1965 with his version of a Joe South song?

Down In The Boondocks by Billy Joe Royal

27. Born in Chicago in 1947, whose tragic death at the age of thirty one ended the career of the singer whose only U.K. hit single had reached No. 2 in 1975?

it's probably Minnie Riperton (1947-1979) whose 1975 hit Loving You reached #2 in the UK and #1 in the US

- - - - -

30. Born in Limerick, Ireland, which BBC Radio Two presenter had his only U.K. hit single in 1978

Terry Wogan is at BBC2 and had a hit in 1978 with Floral Dance. It went as high as #21.

Q12

have a look at www.everyhit.com .. it has every single that has made the UK Charts since January 1952. You can search by title or artist, or by dates. Punching in Leader of The Pack brings up three entries, all by the Shangri-Las:-

Jan 65 #11
Oct 72 #3
Jun 76 #7

Even if you change the top 40 to the top 200, there's been no other entry in the charts from 1952 to 2003 by that name. You may need to ask the QuizMaster what "hit" means. Good luck!
very nice site btw, bookmark it, I did!

11. Which American singer had his only U.K. hit single in 1981, a year after he died at the age of sixty one?

this may be it: Red Sovine
Born: Woodrow Wilson Sovine
July 17, 1918 in Charleston, WV
Died April 4, 1980 in Nashville, TN

his single Teddy Bear reached #4 in the UK charts in June 1981 and, according to www.everyhit.com, it was his only entry in the UK charts

PF, these are driving me bonkers .. please post the answers in this thread when you get them! Some more pointers:

Q5. What was the name of the group, led by a Scottish singer who had two sons who later achieved rather more chart success, whose only U.K. hit single was a cover of a Bob Dylan song in 1965?

using a website with every cover version of a Bob Dylan song came up blank when cross-referencing it to everyhit.com .. the list has 5870 covers of 350 different Dylan songs by 2791 artists!
Q22. Name the group whose only U.K. hit single was also the title of an album by Big Brother and the Holding Company.

using everyhit.com on one screen, and Big Brother's discography on another screen, came up blank as well

Q12

The song was also recorded in 1985 by the heavy-metal quintet Twisted Sister. That' s not the answer, but it's interesting! Have a look at amazon.com, and see what comes up when you punch in Leader of the Pack .. Frank Alamo and Bette Midler have also recorded covers of this song -- there were 256 matches -- good luck!

p.s. Billy Joel played piano on that song, but was never paid as he wasn't a union member!
