The Best Month to Conceive a Boy
The best month to conceive a boy is October. And if you want a girl, April is the best month to conceive. (Mind you, we give no guarantees.)

This means more boys are born in the summer, while more girls are born in the winter. That's the word from a new study by Italian researchers published in the latest issue of Human Reproduction. Sex ratio is the number of baby boys compared with the number of baby girls. Previous research has focused on sex ratio at birth; this study is the first to look at sex ratio at conception.

The results: More boys are conceived when there is 12 hours of daylight and an average temperature of 54 degrees Fahrenheit. In our part of the world, October is the best month for conceiving a boy, while April is the best month for conceiving a girl. (It's just the opposite on the other side of the equator.)

Boys are the more fragile of the two sexes. They are more vulnerable in the womb and in the first few weeks of life. Conception in October means a summer birth. Researchers who made the discovery believe this is nature's way of giving boys a helping hand, ensuring that fewer boys are born during the harsh winter months, reports London's Daily Telegraph.

The research team, led by Dr. Angelo Cagnacci from the Policlinico of Modena, studied more than 14,310 births in Italy between 1995 and 2001. The ratio of boys and girls varied across the year. The Daily Telegraph reports that out of 1,000 babies conceived in October, 535 were boys and 465 were girls. But in April, the ratio was 487 boys to 513 girls.

"We could conclude from our data that if you want a boy in this region of the world, you would have a better chance if you tried to time conception between September and November," Cagnacci told the Daily Telegraph. "And, although the overall numbers of conceptions between March and May are lower than in the autumn, these are the months when you are more likely to conceive a girl."

It worked for me! My daughter was born in January.

taking a slightly different perspective on this matter, i say that when the man and wife have all their "ducks in a row" in terms of their strong commitment to each other and their full preparations for what is to come (by asking what kinds of stuff/ideas/attitudes are needed/necessary for having children (to include financial responsibilities, the ability of each to provide in all other ways which i won't now enumerate but from the above i believe that you know what these might consist of judging from your own experiences along these lines.
the research about best months was interesting, i wonder if additional studies have been conducted.

I have a daughter born in April (conceived in July) and a son born in March (conceived in June). So I guess I haven't followed the patterns very well, have I?

I think my poor little daughter will be glad to any sex, just a baby will be wonderful for her just now - she has just had malignancy diagnosed and has a short time to try to get pregnant before treatment.

Hmmm... My girl was born in late December, and the boy in early September, so I suppose that's roughly right.

The ratios just don't seem that substantial to really make any claim. But then I look at my family and the whole theory stands up for the most part. My brothers and I were born in the summer while my sisters were all born in the winter.

Looking at my family of origin, we are three girls (born January, April and May) and one boy,(born December).

Hmm, I am a girl and I was born during the summer (July).

Not a good time to be born here. The school year for ages goes from 1st September to 31st August so if you are born just before the cut-off you can be a year younger than the oldest children in the class, and can miss two terms of schooling - schools take children in the term before they become five.

That's right - I remember one of my friends being born the day after the cut off, so he had to stay behind a year, because of one day
