OK, here goes for the music notes, key of C, /= bar lines. ' = flat CAPS for octave middle c, lower case for octave above.

AGE AGE/ AGFED / FEDEFED/ GGGAB'AG/
AGE AGE/ ccB'B'A/ ABccBAGcE/ EFGFEDC

That is basically the whole tune start to finish, then it repeats again. KEY: as all CAPS refer to one octave, AGE actually goes down the scale, as the octave is from C to c. each note appears only once per octave so that rule should work throughout. Only c is in octave above. A very simple tune, and very familiar as one I heard before 1981 as well- if anyone recognises it as something else, let me know.

satguru, I read music, but do not recognise that tune. Do you have a tempo or timing?

Yes, it's in 4/4 and probably about presto time. Obviously the more notes per bar the quicker each note in it. If nobody ever gets it I'll publish it myself and pretend it's original!

Just trying to play this in my head (I don't have a piano handy ), but bits of it sound like the old Donovan song, 'Jennifer, Junifer'.

I don't read music but could it be "The Call Up" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads.

The Donovan song is 'Jennifer, Juniper' (Rides a dappled mare). A fine lyricist and songwriter.

I can announce (as on my related thread) the answer to this puzzle was 'Torpedoes' by Havana let's go', a London band from 1981.
Amazingly, after the Falklands war, it was banned from the BBC by Mrs Thatcher in case anyone was offended by it, hence its total obscurity since. The music has also arrived here, from Japan, of all places.
