My students' sailing club wants to make a cd-rom that includes several short films and somehow I ended up being responsible for making them...
The easiest way would probably be to record the films with a digital camera, but that's quite expensive, because we'd have to rent a camera. I was wondering if it is at all possible to record a film with an old-fashioned camera on VHS or Video-8 (or whatever it may be called) and then afterwards convert it to some digital format? If that's possible, how would I have to do that? Any help would be very much appreciated!

This is possible but you need some way of capturing video clips. This usually involves a video capture card, although I have seen an external item of hardware adverised for the purpose. It can also be done with some additional software if you have a TV card. Do you have a card in the computer for this?

Once the video is captured it can be recorded onto a CD using the CD-R software. The file is probably best saved in the Mpeg-2 file format for file size reasons.

Thanks TW! I do have a video card with TV-OUT, but I don't think I have a TV-IN... I'll see if I can find someone who does. At least now I know what I should be looking for.
