I`ve seen a few good bands,Stones,Police etc, but the one concert I would love to see would be: Nick Cave with Ed Kuepper following then Hunters And Collectors. Now that would be a great concert for me.

I've seen Hunters and Collectors in the most packed pub you've ever seen, great band, great atmosphere and great night out.

Haven't really had a chance to see many bands but saw Hoodoo Gurus also and they were briliant.

Oh yes, I've seen it. I own it on DVD, it spends a lot of time in the DVD player. Mr. Indie flat out refuses to watch it with me, apparently, I pause it way too much. Poor guy wonders how I ended up married to him.

used to have a free pass - so got to see shedloads of bands so from a very big list i'll have the following .....

Pogues - St.Patricks Day 1986 - Leeds University Refec. - speaks for itself!
closely followed by ....
Cramps also at Leeds Uni in 1986. Top quality - Lux Interior best showman ever.
Sultans of Ping FC - Huddersfield 92 (i think).
Any King Kurt gig from 85-90 !

Most disappointing gig(s):
Jesus & Mary Chain - played for 30 mins with backs to the crowd. Nice. Evening offset slightly by a great set by the support - the somewhat under-rated Shop Assistants!

Paul Weller Movement - between Style Council & becoming a proper solo artist Weller toured as this. As a huge fan it was an immense let down - it was awful ....

R.E.M. - mcalpine stadium - huddersfield. R.E.M. stadium band - i think not. The day was saved though by the support - Belly who were excellent (as usual).

I can't really say whose concert is the best, because I've only been to one concert
I saw PRINCE this year on his MUSICOLOGY tour and it is one of the best shows I've ever saw (talkin about live shows on tv)
I hear USHER's tours are usually good.

Hi everyone!

Placebo, baby! Placebo has been my favourite band for the past eight years, and I have had the pleasure of seeing them in concert twice. They are amazing! It was a complete take-off, and pure bliss!

They are doing a one-time show at Wembley in November...I really wish I could be going! If anyone is going to that concert, I would really like to hear all about it afterwards

I saw Placebo two times in the last year or so as well, my mate is a huge screaming fan (whereas I am not much of a screamer)...and I agree, they really do put on a good show, and sound fantastic live!!

I'm so excited! I'm going to see Social Distortion on Tuesday. It's at a very small venue, so my friend and I are hoping we'll get a chance to meet the band. Expect a full report on Wednesday.

Ok, so I saw Social D last night. All I can say is wow! The show was held at a local ice arena, so it was very cold. We were standing on the ice! Well, they did put carpet down, but it didn't help much. My brother and I have an interesting new business proposition thought, we're going to sell warm socks outside of the venue.

The first band was called The Explosion. They were actually pretty good and their fans were very well behaved. Then came Tiger Army. The band was ok, but their fans were terrible. They pushed, shoved, pulled hair, kicked and other assorted nasty things. At this point, we bailed from the pit.

Social D hit the stage and the place went nuts. Mr. Ness was certainly on his game. The first thing he said was "This ain't Pittsburgh. I fell asleep on my bus and woke up in Belle Vernon." We all laughed because the other two bands called it Pittsburgh even though Pitt is actually about 45 minutes South. Mike got the town name right, major points to him. I had been saying for days that I really wanted to hear "Story of my Life" live. Well, I got my wish. My friend looked at me and said "You happy now?" It was an amazing show complete with a marriage proposal, the girl said yes.

I've loved Social D for 17 years and this is the first time I've seen them live. It was worth the wait.

We didn't get to meet the band like we'd hoped, but the show was so excellent. Well, minus the Tiger Army fans.

What I'm about to say requires NO laughing (and I know you are all going to laugh! ).

My favorite concerts I attended was Menudo. I saw them on October 10, 1984, July 2, 1987, and July 23, 1988. They were the best three concerts ever!

Glad you finally got to see Social D, Indie. Waiting for concerts you want to attend is no fun. Once again I missed seeing REM (it sold out quickly) after twenty-some years of almost seeing them live.

Dakota, one can't laugh at concerts that make you happy. That said, I have to admit loving the Sergio Mendes & Brazil '77 show I saw in my mostly heavy metal days. Though I did keep my going to that show a secret!

Sorry for bringing this one back from the dead, but I have a story and darn it, I'm telling it.

My friend and I saw Ike Reilly live this past Tuesday. We're both big fans of his and were very excited to see him live in a small venue. About 10 minutes before he took the stage, I spotted him at the bar. So, I went up and asked him to sign my CD, which he very kindly did. He then posed for a picture with my while my friend fumbled with the camera. Ike told him not to rush as he was cool hanging out with me *blush*. So, he takes the stage and after three or four songs, he asks for requests. And, I hear from the stage, "Hey, Amber, anything you wanna hear? " Yes folks, Ike Reilly called my name from the stage. He also pointed out exactly where I was sitting! At this point, I could have died a very happy woman. After the show, he called my house and left a message on my answering machine for my daughter because she loves him and couldn't go to the show. He was a genuinely nice guy who put on one heck of a show. He now has two fans for life in my house.

I saw The White Stripes at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis earlier this month. This was the best concert I'd seen in over a decade and one of the top 5 shows I've attended.

Jack White is an amazing showman. He reminded me of Dylan circa '74-'76 and Prince during the mid-'80s. It was fun watching the intense connection between Jack and drummer/ex-wife (though he still calls her his sister), Meg White. It's their playing off each other that's the heart of the show. With two mic stands- one at the front of the stage and one in front of Meg's kit- it seemed as if Jack was wooing her with each song he sang at that mic.

Highlights of the evening included "Blue Orchid", "The Big Three Killed My Baby" (played on the piano!), "Seven Nation Army", "House of the Rising Sun" (for New Olreans), a quivering version of "Jolene", "Passive Manipulation" (both the Meg on vocals version and as a later duet between Jack & Meg), "Sister Do You Know My Name" and my favorite, "I'm Lonely But I Ain't That Lonely Yet". Quite a few acoustic numbers in the set, such as "Apple Blossom" and a cover of Patti Page's "I Don't Care If the Sun Don't Shine".

This was quite an extravagant stage show, much more theatrical than the band's last tour which is represented on the "Under Blackpool Lights" dvd. I'm glad I saw the Stripes before they move on from 1500 seat venues.

I was very, very, VERY lucky to see Siobhan Donaghy when she was doing her underground tours using the name Shanghai Nobody (an anagram of her name). She was amazing. And all of her music sounds more incredible live than it does on the album (which is saying something). That's very easily the best concert I've ever been to. I saw Tori in April, too, but Siobhan was much better. Sorry...

Ooh, I've seen so many I coudn't possibly choose one.
The top five would be (in no particular order):
Paul McCartney
Simon and Garfunkel
Chicago
Neil Diamond
Tina Turner
Forgot about Elton John - I guess that would make it the top six!

We're going to see Chris de Burgh next month, so the jury hasn't polled on that one yet!

my favorite "concerts" were tristan und isolde sung by kirsten flagstad and not sure about the tenor(1952 or 53). another favorite female singer was zinka milanov. my all time favorite male tenor was jussi bjoerling, although i remember tagliavini in the "ecco ridente in cielo" opera. remember also lluba welitsch in richard strauss salome-wow!
my ship was being recommissioned in the brooklyn navy yard so used to attend all kinds of stuff, one day i walked into a club where ella fitzgerald was singing--after i got in there she bought me a drink and asked me what i wanted her to sing--since i have been classical all my life but had heard of her but just in general, i requested that she sing her favorite song. unfortunately i have no idea what that was. i made one tragic mistake, i had the opportunity to attend a dylan thomas reading or go to a gaguku (japanese music--had not been out of japan for a thousand years)--what i hadn't known was that dylan was soon to be no longer with us. he had such a beautiful voice! had a box seat at carnegie hall the levintritt foundation made it available to me--remember a fantastic arturo toscanini rehearsal, met composer martinu sitting next to me one day--ever heard his music?

I saw Wilco this Monday night at the Indiana University Auditorium. This was a show I'd been looking forward to as I've been a fan of Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy since his days in Uncle Tupelo. After UT split up, various band members went on to Wilco or Son Volt. I've seen Son Volt live, and now Wilco.

Guitarist Nels Cline was amazing, a highlight only hinted at in the band's recent live album. I haven't seen anyone attack a guitar in such a masterful manner. Tweedy is still the spotlight, his singing, stage act and humor all worthwhile.

Just a few of the many excellent songs they played include "Airline to Heaven", "Kingpin", "Hell is Chrome", "Handshake Drugs", "Jesus, Etc", "A Shot in the Arm" and my favorite- which always sends chills down my spine- "Theologians".

The acoustics were pretty good for that particular building. The crowd was slow warming up to the music but it was a Monday night. All in all it was an excellent show. When I arrived at the auditorium, I traded my nose-bleed seat for a row 8 ticket, so I came out on the winning side seatwise and musicwise.

I haven't been to any concerts yet. I wish that I could go to a Greg Page concert. Or a Doodlebop concert. Or maybe even a Wiggles concert.

Now this is a venerable thread. Skunkee, I am mightily impressed with who you've had the opportunity to see. Now, I am old guy, so many of the bands mentioned I've never heard - and a few (blush) I've never heard of. And so, I have to wonder whether any of the artists I'm going to mention will ring any bells. But in 1966, one year before the "Summer of Love", I attended a concert at Winterland in San Francisco at which The Muddy Water's Blues Band with James Cotton, Buddy Guy and Otis Spahn played. The second bill was The Paul Butterfield Blues Band with both Elvin Bishop and Michael Bloomfield playing guitar. At the bottom of the bill was "The Jefferson Airplane", who became "The Jefferson Starship". The concert lasted six hours. Admission was $3, there was a light show and you got a free apple at the door (and if you were brave you ate it despite not knowing what it might be adulterated with). But my favorite conert was Peter Paul and Mary just after they reunited.

Oh yes, uglybird, that would have been a superb concert indeed, on all three counts. I did see Muddy Waters many years ago, but he was playing alone at the time.
I have been lucky, concert-wise, and seen an awful lot of great ones, largely in the last 10 years. In the summer we saw Carole King, and she was amazing. Most recently we saw Eric Burden and he can still really belt it out. Next month we are going to see the Ringo Starr All Star Review. I'm told that they put on a good show.
Over the last few years we have also seen the Stones, Rod Stewart, The Guess Who, David Bowie, The Monkees, Three Dog Night and America.
I know from past conversations with you, that you have seen quite a few amazing bands too. Why don't you share some more?

Oh my Skunkee, how can I resist an invitation like that? Most of my concert going occurred in the 60s in San Francisco and Berkeley, California. At the Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom we regularly saw the Steve Miller Band, Janis Joplin, and the Grateful Dead. We also saw out-of-towners like the Doors, the Youngbloods and Chuck Berry. But I saw a couple of bands in unusual venues. Country Joe and the Fish played at my wife's junior prom in 1966. The next year we saw the Yardbirds at a suburban roller-rink in my hometown of San Leandro, California. The Yardbird's lead guitarist, Jeff Beck, was sick and we had to settle for their base player playing lead guitar, that would be Jimmy Page.
