Are you more into bands that sound better live or bands that sound better on CD? Do you know may bands that sound great both ways?

Toadlicker - having been brought up on Live Music - and that means the performers made all the music themselves at the time, no recordings, no pre-recorded tapes, hardly any electronics apart from guitar amplifiers there is nothing to compare between live music and CD's. The experience of being there and hearing it live cannot be bettered.
That judgement does not just apply to Pop Music - Attend a Royal Marines Band Concert and feel the music vibrate the seats - a CD can't do that!(Unless you upset the neighbours)

I'll just reiterate what Fosse said more or less. The sound of current pop, hip-hop, rap etc is perfected painstakingly on the studio mixing board and effects table. This is always going to be a nightmare to replicate with live musicians on stage. The CD is going to be more polished. You always hear of people walking out of Kylie Minougue and Madonna concerts, but never the Stones or Chilli Peppers.

It's peas and pods anyway. Live music is about absorbing the atmosphere as much as the music and loving the flaws. CD's, I want them to sound polished and well mixed.

Excellent points all around. Have you ever been to an O.A.R. concert? They're so awesome. The energy and electricity of the crowd is so contageous. They have a new CD coming out at the end of this month called (edited by music moderator, please see note and guidelines for this section) which will be their first major label CD ever, so I'm curious to see how the energy of the live music translates to the CD. They remind me somewhat of Dave Matthews Band, so hopefully they'll do as well as DMB in the transition to studio.

As long as a band sounds good live or on cd, i'm happy. I really don't care much for the sound of rock concerts in enclosed places like arenas and auditoriums. There was one good arena in my area with decent acoustics. Then the city demolished it to build a larger building to seat more people.
The acoustics are awful, to say the least.

Hello Toadlicker,
as one of the music section mods, I did want to welcome you and direct you to the guidelines to this section.

One of the reasons that people didn't respond at first is that, as often is the case, we've had many very new members propose topics only to put a link into a site as you have. I'm afraid this isn't allowed as it does constitute advertising.
We welcome new members who truly want to discuss topics in music, however, you may not put in links as you've done, sorry. It is rather troublesome when people respond to your thread sincerely, only to have you put in a link to another place, which was the whole purpose of your posting anyway.

As always, if you do wish to advertise something, you're welcome to contact our webmaster.

Yours sincerely,
Bruyere, music co mod.

I go for C.D. music, because for some reason whenever artists perform live, their voice always sounds different, and their song doesn't sound the same.
