Die Hard,
I live about a half mile NW of Hurricane Harbor in Arlington. You should have fun, or at least your kids will..lol. Throw in Six Flags and a Ranger game and we can offer up a fun weekend.

It's only a five hour drive too. I think it takes longer to drive to Denmark. As for the outback, ask Copago what it *really* is.

Tellywellies, your towpath is beautiful. It's the sort of thing that should be in a travel brochure.

My hometown is a little place called London, it seems to be popular with backpackers and touristas alike. I've never understood why? It seems an awful long way to come from places like BA, Sydney and Auckland. You have to suffer through Heathrow and the Underground just so you can breath black Taxi fumes and have the pigeons defecate on your bonce. Then everyone buys something they don't want at a price way beyond their means at Harrods just to send to a distant Auntie.

Now of course, as Fosse4 has suggested I live somewhere far more up market. I am a resident of the Glory sur la mare that is Blackpool. Premier sea-side resort not just of the UK, nor even the World but the entire Universe. Forget Bondi beach and its surfers, forget St. Tropez and the mesmeric topless sun worshipers, forget even the lair of the Rat God in Florida, Blackpool is the resort, the place to holiday. There is no other.

Tourist attractions I hear you ask? What can we not offer? The fabulous Blackpool Tower a symbol of this town that is recognised throughout the world and beyond. The Petronas may be taller, CN may have cleaner lines but this is without question the most beautiful tower ever built. Blackpool has not one, not two but three fabulous piers. Generations of children have played happily on the glorious Central Beach situated between the North Pier and the old sewerage out-fall. The Pepsi-Max is the greatest roller coaster in all of Europe, possibly the world but it is merely one among many thrilling and vomit inducing rides to be found at the Pleasure Beach. Going south from the Pleasure Beach the New Promenade is festooned with many recently commissioned items of modern sculpture and some bus shelters. In the other direction, the Pleasure Beach is just a short horse drawn carriage ride along the attractive old prom from the very McDonald's frequented by Ex. USA president W.J. Clinton. Mr. Clinton is hardly the only superstar to appreciate the finer points of Backpool, every year it is a second home to many hundreds of prominent politicians. Perhaps this is due to the supra-abundance of lap dancing, topless go-go and transvestite bars that cater to more adult tastes. There are also of course the Donkeys. Super-stars of music and entertainment flock to the town's many theatres to entertain the tourists. Who can fail to appreciate the value per minute of an evening with a comedian with the stamina of the great Ken Dodd? Keith Harris and Orville are also well loved … somewhere. Chubby Brown is however despite his jolly demeanour and name perhaps not the ideal choice as a children's entertainer. What else have I missed? A first class regional Zoo. On a cold wet day, when the beach is not an option what child will fail but to be impressed by the simply mountainous deposits of Elephant poo? Traditional English cuisine can be found everywhere; there are a wide selection of Fish and Chip shops and Curry houses. International dining is also possible, as outlets for all major purveyors of fine burgers such as McDonalds and Burger King are also present.

For those who cannot keep up with the dynamic pace of life in town a more sedate pace of life can be found in our sister resort of Fleetwood. This is just a short trip up the coast on our fabulous mass transit system of veteran trams. At Fleetwood one may visit the authentic Fish market and purchase the traditional Kippers. There are also; the delightfully twee Free Port shopping, a majestic boating pond and if one has simply had enough of the Fylde one can leap upon the ferry to Ireland.

When the leaves begin to fall and the nights become shorter most other resorts start to close down for the winter, not so the enterprising merchants of Blackpool. It is then that the great festival of lights known as the 'Illuminations' begins and the whole of the promenade and Golden Mile are lit up with millions of lights in a riot of colour. For several weeks the town fills again with tourists who queue in their cars to drive along the promenade after dark. The drive takes about and hour to an hour and a half and proceeds at about five miles an hour. Regular residents thoughtfully go about their business via the back streets during this period. The illuminations are completely free it is all paid for by the regular residents who are taxed £35 each for the privilege of staging the illuminations.

I live in Central Florida, tourist central. With in thirty miles of our home are The Holy Land Experience, Universal Studios, Sea World and the park the mouse built. Of course that’s only the biggies, we have many, many smaller attractions to part you from your money, so come on down!

The Holy Land Experience how to explain? I have never been there, but we have had many articles about it in the local papers. It is my understanding that the park was started by Jews who converted to Christianity! It has buildings representing Jerusalem and actors parading around as saints and people from the bible. To see more you might want to check out this site http://www.theholylandexperience.com/

Winterlude, Tulip Fest, and the Parliament Buildings.....none of which the locals get too excited about....or, at least I don't.

Amy Fisher, the "Long Island Lolita" lived a stone's throw away from us, and my wife and I actually got our mortgage the day Amy shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco. People used to drive by and check things out. However, no one remembers who Amy Fisher is any more.

My rather awful burb has a ratio of about six ridiculous SUV's to every one person, and I have long felt that if OPEC members were to plan a "Needless Fossil Fuel Consumption Museum", they would do well to build the thing right here.

The so-called tourist attraction in Long Island, the Hamptons, is basically a 30-mile traffic jam on a one-lane road.

The CN Tower. Niagara Falls is just 'down the road' from Toronto too.

I think Vikan is the one who comes the closest to me at having the most well known attractions, but here I go. I live in Garden Grove, CA. Never heard of it? Not surprising. I live across the street from Anaheim, CA and 1.4 miles from Disneyland (according to www.mapquest.com), about 3.5 miles from Edison Field where the Anaheim Angels play baseball and from Arrowhead Pond where the Mighty Ducks play hockey, 6.5 miles from Knott's Berry Farm theme park (look down the jelly isle in the grocery store, you'll see Knott's Berry Farm jelly there), 7.5 miles from Huntington Beach, aka Surf City USA where the International Surfing Museum and the Surfing Walk of Fame are, 15 miles from Long Beach (which is where I go to college) which has the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach every April and also has the giant ship "Queen Mary" docked there, 8 miles from the National Water Polo Training Facility in Los Alamitos (which is where I went to high school), about 26 miles southeast of downtown LA, 35 miles southeast of Hollywood, and 85 miles north of San Diego. I think thats probably the most well known attraction center possibly in the world. That can be argued though.

Knotts Berry Farm also does some tasty chicken as I recall from my visit there some years ago. We stayed at the Anaheim Sheriton as it was very handy for Disney with a free shuttle bus. We had a great time.

Until now, I've thought Knott's was in New York.

I'm not sure what I've been confusing it with.

Ready?

I meant to say New Jersey, but I know I'm still wrong. I think I've confused it with something else.

I used to live very near the "Betsy Tacey" house. I still live fairly close to it. It never really occured to me whether or not people from outside southern Minnesota know about Betsy and Tacey but they are two characters from books by Maud Hart Lovelace.

In the case of Norwich the answer(s) are straightforward. The Cathedral gets most visitors, followed by the Castle (which is also a museum). In addition to the Cathedral, the former walled area contains 32 (yes, thirty-two) further medieval churches. (This figure is easily the record in N. Europe, possibly in the world).

Of course, a mere 20 miles away there's Gt. Yarmouth, whose beaches and sea-front and pier attract far more visitors than Nowich ...

Coolupway, I was living in NJ at the time Amy and Joey were in all the headlines. I remember the pictures of his disfigured wife defending him; the whole thing was a circus. So I quess living near Amy Fisher could be considered as tacky as living near a bible tourist trap!

I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and the Delaware River, which is only about a mile from my house, is the biggest attraction here. In the summer people come from all over to boat, jetski, hike and bike along the canal. Rock climbing on the mountains is popular too. Every year it seems at least one person falls to their death. There's also a popular campground called Ringing Rocks that people travel for. If you hike back far enough you'll find these big rocks that play different notes when you hit them with a hammer. lol

Pearl S. Buck lived about 10 miles away. Her estate is a big tourist attraction.

Washington's Crossing is not far. That's where George Washington crossed the Delaware during the battle of Trenton. I can't believe how many people go down there in the cold, twilight hours of Christamas morning to watch the recreation of the event.
