I live near White Sands National Monument and the International Space Hall of Fame and about 150 miles from Carlsbad Caverns.

I think the only big attraction here in NJ is Six Flags Great Adventure up in Jackson. We really don't have anything here in the southern part of the state (unless you want to look at all the trees in the Pine Barrens).

And of course it was named after a great little place, surely there must be something to commemorate that. Anything De Carteret?

LOL! Well, I guess that's a good point, Lanni. But Sesame Place is in Pennsylvania--Langhorne to be exact. And the Meadowlands are up North. I did forget about the shore and Atlantic City. What was I thinking!!

I think it is becoming clear as this thread gets bigger and bigger that as tourist attractions go there is Blackpool and, on a much lower plane everything else.

Come to Blackpool, I won't regret it.

Where is home exactly etherat? Queensland as mentioned earlier, the UK as mentioned earlier or the USA? That's quite a few countries in short time.

Louisville (if I'm correct) KY, USA. Whatever city it is in, it's in Kentucky. It is the biggest (longest) cave system in the world.

Tielhard, you just don't get it! Black pool may have many things but it just can't compare to central Florida. In addition to all the cultural places I have already listed for you, Dolly Parton has just opened the Dixie Stampede.I will take snipits from their ad so you may gain a greater understanding of all that Orlando has to offer.
Horses (Maginficent)
Fabulous four-course feast (eat with your hands, no silver ware)
Friendly North-South Rivalry (may account for the no utensils)
American Buffalo
World famous racing ostriches and pigs ( this part leaves me ?)
I could continue, but I think this should be enought to make you realize the error of your ways!

I think the thing that many people appreciate when they first visit the Glory that is Blackpool is the complete absence of theme parks dedicated to mice. Many people consider this to be a bonus beyond compare. The second thing they notice is that there is no Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. We also have lots of friendly(ish) North-South rivalry here. People are rarely killed. Many British people go to Florida. I too shall be taking my son to Florida next year. Nearly all of us will visit the mouse god in his hall but those of us Brits. that end up watching Dolly's ostrich and Bison will be few and far between.

Blackpool has Old Worlde charm, style and in nearby St. Anne's one can even find sophistication. Orlando can offer none of these things. You mention finger foods. Blackpool is Europe's centre for this type of cuisine. Fish and Chip suppers abound, pizza can be found everywhere and kebab al Grec is a speciality.

I have not even mentioned our artists colonies. Along the central promenade, a child can have its face painted by a master. Our tatooists, I cannot begin to describe them. There is one in almost every major street, all very hygienic and all ready to inscribe your devotion to your mother on your back forever. We also of course have a plethora of piercers, you name it, they will ram 3" of surgical steel though it for you. With great elan and some care I might add. What Orlando may have in weather Blackpool more than makes up for in the arts as I say.

I have forgotten the sports; Donkey trekking upon the golden sands of central beach, landau race down the seafront, kite buggies (we only had two deaths last year), golf, and a full half marathon. What a place. Do come to Blackpool soon!

Just a note of caution. Blackpool's many attractions include the famous bed bugs at the Hotel Filth (or at least they did for me). I was bitten silly.

I'd say our nearest tourist attraction is St. Paul's - Islington's only about five minutes drive away, and the cathedral is quite spectacular when it's lit up at nights. There's not that much in Islington itself - we used to have Tony Blair's hair, which could be seen waving merrily on windy days for all the children to gawp at, but now that's moved to Downing Street.

Yes, but the hotels specialising in the outre and BDSM do cost a little extra I am afraid.

Blackpool's culinary delights just don’t come up to snuff! Fish and chips, I’m sure there must be one around here (Oh I know there’s one at Epcot at that mouse place). Mc Donald’s and Burger King of course we have them along with Pizza Hut and all the others.
I mentioned Dolly’s Stampede but that is just our newest taste sensation. Here in tourist central people expect excitement with their vittles. Let me give you a slight sampling of what we have to offer:
Pirate’s Dinner Adventure –where you can sail on the high seas for swashbuckling thrill, with the perfect blend of comedy, romance, action and adventure. (no mention of food in the ad) (ps I think this all takes place on dry land).
Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament – Set in an 11th century castle – Feast with tournament games and exciting sword fights and equestrian dressage.
There are several Mystery Dinner theaters where you get to solve a murder while you eat. (I don’t know if they use real blood).
And the majors parks all offer entertainment dinning that includes Luaus, western shows, ethnic shows and many other shows to entertain and keep you mind off the mediocre food.
You can keep trying Tielhard, but I know I can win this war!

My home town is in the Rockingham area of Western Australia. There is quite alot to do and see here - from wine tasting to a deer park. I live about 8 mins from an island called Penguin Island.

Penguin Island, located about 42 km from Perth, is home to the largest colony of penguins in Western Australian. The 12.5-hectare Island is located less than 700m off the coast of Rockingham.
The island also has excellent snorkelling and surfing conditions, delightful picnic areas, lookouts and walkways. Penguins who call the Centre home have either been orphaned or nursed back to health after injury.

The Island has a colourful history. Seaforth McKenzie, lived on the Island from about 1914 to 1926. Seaforth was into caves both digging and painting, some of which are still visible today.

Perth and its surrounds are beautiful pinfire. I took the trek south a few years through Yallingup, Margaret River, Little Denmark, Valley of the Giants, Albany and back through the Stirling Ranges. It was memorable. Very beautiful country. Next trip I want to go north to Monkey Mia and up to the Kimberley region over a few weeks.

Bertho, I used to live in Albany, very pretty place. The weather I liked, not as hot as Perth. People used to say it rained for 9 months then dripped off the trees for the next 3 months .

I live in Louisville, KY, and so there's two huge events in my town: Thunder Over Louisville, which attracts 700,000-odd people, and the Kentucky Derby. Both cause horrible traffic backups. It takes around three hours (and it normally takes 20 minutes) to get to my house from the metro area during Thunder.

It's a toss up between the CN Tower and Niagara Falls...but Niagara Falls is probably a bigger draw.
I'm sort of half-way between them.
