Our biggest tourist attraction is Cypress Gardens. They recently redid it, so there are small roller coasters and concerts. But some of the park is still the same, which I'm grateful for. I've got some good memories there from when I was younger.

Biggest attraction near me would probably be 'Longleat Safari Park'. I try to go most years, but we always make sure we go before the schools break up.

I'm so jelous Sue, I've always wanted to go on a real safari...but have only just got over my fear of flying. And thats the good thing about Longleat you should be able to see them, as they don't have miles and miles to hide in :P

I have a large Koala Park about 500 metres from me.
It is most often inhabited by Japanese tourists (as well as Koalas, I guess!)

The nearest attraction for me is the Cutty Sark boat in Greenwich, London.

Five minutes drive from where we live we have 'Wet & Wild' water park, 'Movie World' and 'DreamWorld'. Twenty minutes drive takes us to 'Sea World' and Surfers Paradise beach, all are major tourist attractions.

Not including the city of Chicago, which is about half an hour away from my town, I'd say the two biggest attractions in my hometown of Schaumburg, IL, are:
1) Woodfield Mall. This is one of the largest malls in the US. I think if you go by pure retail space and not stuff like roller coasters (looking at you, Mall of America), it's the biggest in the country. They bus people here from other states just to shop. Makes this place pure hell during the holidays.
2) The National Amateur Dodgeball Tournament is held in Schaumburg, IL. I've never been to it, but I'd sure like to watch it sometime.

I live about 5 miles from the "hallowed turf" of Manchester United FC - but as I am not a football fan, I would prefer the Imperial War Museum North (also about 5 miles away) and the Lowry Centre on the other side of the Manchester Ship Canal. The Centre has a great exhibition of L S Lowry's paintings ("matchstalk men and matchstalk cats and dogs").

Jerusalem.. many sites but the crown would be 'Har HaBayit' ..the Temple Mount. Today El Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock are on this site and the Wailing/Western Wall is on the edge of it. According to tradition this is Har Moriah, the place where Abraham took up Isaac. Sacred to Judaism, Islam and Christianity. A place for awe, prayer and tears and joy.

We have an amusement park called Cedar Point that draws coaster enthusiasts from all over the world. I can see the tops of some of them from my front porch as I'm only 1/2 mile off Lake Erie. For you football fans, it has the beach where Knute Rockne perfected the forward pass. He worked there during summers. We also have some good nature reserves and, of course, lots of touristy water parks. My city,Sandusky, has a population of 27,000, but in the summer the traffic is more like Chicago from all the out-of-towners. We bitch a lot,but the tourist industry is a mainstay because it brings hundreds of thousands here and they all evidently have a lot more money to spend than I do!

I live about 6 miles from Birmingham City Centre (England's 'second city'). Great for shopping and I also enjoy visiting the Art/History Museum. I'm not far from a place called Clent Hills which is great if you enjoy walks and great scenery like i do Also only about 15 miles or so from West Midlands Safari Park.. unfortunately never been as not got a car. I'll get there one day!

I'm in Louisville, Ky so we've got Churchill Downs of course. Also, not far from here is Red River Gorge, when of the neatest geological attractions you'll find in North America. The Mammoth Cave system is also not too far south from me, the longest in the U.S. I believe.
