Stunning Edinburgh Castle. With over 1000 years of history and sitting on top of a volcanic rock, it is spectacular. It is also home to the fireworks display at Hogmanay, the biggest street party in the world at New Year.

Cape Town has many sites that would be enjoyable to tourists. But one big one that stands out from all the rest. When I hear of a friend of the family coming to Cape Town I always advise them to arrive at night, check into a hotel facing west and when they get up in the morning to close their eyes, open the curtains, then open their eyes. Table Mountain is a most amazing sight. I've been here 22 years and I still look towards the mountain every day. I would gladly move to any country in the world if I could take Table Mountain with me.

I'm not sure about where I live, possibly the Barossa Valley, though I am a fair way away from there. Perhaps Melba's Chocolate Factory, that isn't too far.

I'd have to say being that I live
within 15 minutes via highway to
downtown Cleveland, Ohio-
that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame probably fit the bill. Actually
I've been to it- I'm not really a big
music person- wasn't all that impressed
with it but....

I live near Pearl Harbor, site of the Dec.7,1941 bombing by Japan that caused the US to enter WWII. The USS Arizona, a sunken battleship from the attack, is still submerged in the water and is a major tourist attraction here (visitor center, museum, film, boat ride to the shrine which is built over the wreckage). It is run by the National Park Service.

We are the busiest tourist site in Australia because of day tourists from Sydney coming to see the Blue Mountains and the Three Sisters. All the buses come past my place, oh joy. Yes A Member, all the animals here want to kill us, but we don't hold that against them.

There are not many attracions down here on the small island of Tasmania but the one place the tourists all seem to head would be the Port Arthur Historic Site. I went there once, it was totally freaky!

The Polar Bear Express is the biggest tourist attraction. Once people take it (it's a train), they can then go on tours of James Bay. How cool is that?

New Jersey ain't the most interestin' place in the world. I mean, besides the Mafia that run in and out of the City, I guess probably the Lakewood Blue Claws in Lakewood, NJ. Prolly about an hour from me. You want big tourist attractions, go to New York City, 'bout 2 hours from where I live. I have a shirt that says, "Bad things happen to good people in New Jersey." Guess that really sums up that there's not much.

I do spend a lot in time in Hong Kong, so I guess the Star Ferry that's cheap across the harbour, either ways. There's also The Peak on top of a mountain which is real fun. My favorite place is a place called Harbour City, it's actually a mall and it's got a Harley Davidson store and good food.

In Seattle the biggest tourist attraction is probably the Space Needle or the Pacific Science Center. But few people visit the area without going to Paradise on Mount Rainier.

My home, in Northern Ireland, is about 20 minutes away from a little-known place called the Giant's Causeway

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, there's Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, or the Old Bushmills Whiskey Distillery (oldest established whiskey distillery in the world )... with free samples!

I live in Florida. The Orlando area isn't far away, and of course, that means Disney World.

And, oh yes, Busch Gardens, Cypress Gardens, Universal, etc., etc.

Stone Mountain is a giant granite boulder just to the east of Atlanta. I believe it might be one of the biggest 'rocks' on the surface of the earth. The trail to hike to the top is around a mile and climbs over 1000 ft. The park overall is very nice and one of the main places I like to take people if they come to visit.

I live in upstate New York, which is closer to Canada than to (the closest large American city) Syracuse. The biggest attraction here would have to be Alexandria Bay in the Thousand Islands. One of those islands is home to Boldt Castle on Heart Island. This castle was built by George Boldt (owner of Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC) for his beloved wife Louise, who sadly died in 1904 before its completion. Construction was immediately stopped and the house fell into disarray for years until the Thousand Island Bridge Authority reopened it to paying visitors. For the last thirty years the revenue has been used to refurbish and slowly complete the lower floors of the castle. Construction continues and today it is the beautiful site of many local weddings.

The closest thing here is Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park. It's all about 40 miles one-way and many people that live around here go there for day trips.

The nearest big attraction is Sandringham House , about 7 miles away, the Christmas retreat of the royal family.

I had lived here for 25 years before I looked round the house!

Where i live we have a number of castles, the most notable being Balmoral. Never been though.
Isn't it strange how people seem less inclined to visit places on their own doorstep, yet will travel many miles to see other places of interest? For example, I used to live in Edinburgh (a must on any ones travel itinery) yet never visited the zoo. When i visited San Diego, one of the first attractions we were taken to was ........ you guessed, the zoo.

It's so true. I had to leave my hometown to appreciate all it had to offer. Now when I go home I try to get to the museums and other points of interest. There's no point in having hometown pride if you don't participate!

Did you live in Amesbury or Salisbury?

And as for me, my town'd be the "Carriage Town Capital of the World." We have a waterfall downtown that still powers textile mills...
