Abacus could be one what? Sorry, once again I fail to understand. (you will note we have been warned to copy/ quote your answers as you change them after a few posts, even though you have been politely asked not to. ) Maybe you could help by stating to what you refer here. Thanks.

ren33, I think etartherat is referring to a word with which there are no rhyming ones...but then, ' mucous' (or ' mucus', one is the British spelling, the other is the American, I don't know which is which ) rhymes with 'abacus...

About no word rhyming with orange, here's a limerick by Jim Farrand: Quote:
I know of a scholar from Holland, Who's vocab must need to be broadened, There's no rhyme for orange? But what about "lozenge"? His list of word primes should be shortened!
I got it from this site.
The same site also lists
- purple (you were right, Exit10!)
- pint (again!)
- nothing (and again!)
- silver (whatabout 'river', 'quiver', 'river'?)
- month (the word that started this discussion)
- orange (which the limerick proves wrong, but it might be purely a matter of accent)
So the only convincing ones are: 'purple', 'pint', 'nothing' (like the site says, 'of course something rhymes with nothing!), and 'month'. Can you think of any others, anybody?

Sorry Harish, Without putting an 'l' into your suggestions for silver you are drawing a rather long bow, or is that quiver? 'Lozenge' is the cause of much consternation and confusion in 'rhyming' circles and I think it falls into the same category as cactus and mucus in the earlier post. P.S. For my money Holland doesn't rhyme with broadened either.

Okay, fine, I guess I'm wrong about all these words rhyming with silver. About orange and abacus, I'm sure things like lozenge, mucus, cactus, King Caractecus (:)) should be acceptable. Hey, anagram1,you thoud know that I altho lithp.

Hmmmm! Maybe "Wendy" first appeared in "Peter Pan", but isn't it really short for Gwendolyn?

The author made it up after a child's mispronounciation (sp) of the word "friend". (Don't you just love "Jeopardy"?) If you want some more interesting useless trivia just go here.

O.K., I'll quote a few of my favorite answers to words that don't rhyme.
For many years I tried in vain To find a rhyme for month. I tried and failed a hundred times, But succeeded the hundred-and-oneth. - Anonymous
A pronouncing gazetteer In Webster's seems clear "stonehenge:" (Ston henj) "orange:" (or enj) Truely rhymesters must persevere. - Don Alborell of Birmingham, AL, as published in the Mensa Bulletin, Jan/Feb 1984, p 10
It seems, said the poet, so strange that despite my remarkable range of prosodiac skill that somehow I still can't find a rhyme for orange. - Anonymous
Cordially,
Russ

Nice link, SilyLily. I searched that site a bit, and found this. Just some towns in the USA whose name-givers seemed to be a bit confused, and named their city 'Possum Grape' or something like that. The names are really great, they include Doghouse Junction, Yreka Zzyzx, Jupiter, Sodaville, Oatmeal, Idiotville, Slaughterville, Pumpkin Centre, the list is endless! <tempted to put multiple exclamation marks!>

We go through Slaughterville every time we go to Evansville. In Alabama we have Burnt Corn and wouldn't you want to live in Muck City?
