On my keyboard there is a symbol for the Euro on the 5 key long with the % symbol, but I can't work out how to get the Euro symbol and it doesn't appear to be in the character map. If it's on the key it must be there somewhere, right? Right? And while I'm at it, why aren't there keys for the fractions? There's spots for things such as ~ ^ and | which I would have thought were used less than half or quarter. I know they are in the character map but why aren't they on the keyboard like they used to be with the good old typewriters? Just curious.

Ctrl Alt and the key gives € for me, except it is on our 4 key with the $ sign, we have our % on the 5 and £ on the 3. As for the fractions, no doubt a man designed the keyboard and didn't give it a thought.

Nope, doesn't do it for me How strange. Just looked in the help file and it says "European and International keyboards may use the ALTGR layout to display characters not supported by the normal or shift key states. If your keyboard supports the ALTGR character set, to use the ALTGR characters you must press the right ALT key followed by the SHIFT key. All European language keyboards have the symbol for the Euro currency on the ALTGR layout. " Mine mustn't support it. Would've thought that it was a little more accesible than this! My computer is just two years old, it's not as though the Euro was a concept after it would've been made. And have to go into the character map for the £.

€ - oooh, there you go, the AltGr key worked with it too, without the Shift though. Now I can tell Gillian in the office, she has also been using the Ctrl and Alt with it. Actually the Ctrl/Alt seems to have the same effect as the Alt Gr which until now I haven't used.
Now you have me playing, I just touched the key which is next to the right Ctrl key and up popped a window with Undo, Paste etc, oooh and the key with the Windows brought up the Start menu! Now what do we do with all these buttons along the top of the keyboard, I know the righthand one will open a browser, wow I touched another and up came a web authoring tool! You have me on a roll now, another moved me to my Outlook Inbox, one took me to screensaver (?), one gave me Mute/Unmute, the final one took me to something called an Internet Center (complete with American spelling).

There is a way to do fractions. On MSWord, there is a certain setting you can turn on so when you type a fraction such as 1/2, it will put superscript and subscript (?) on the 1 and 2. So it would basically turn out as 1/ /2 But in a bad format on the forums!!

AltGr+4 does the Euro symbol for me too (€ there you go!). I know that just about anything can be typed using CTRL or ALT or SHIFT, plus various combinations of numbers. The trouble is that it's no good learning them because just when you need to type '¼' you can never remember how to do it (I did that with the character map). It would be nice if there were keys on the keyboard for fractions because I still can't think or talk entirely metric yet.

I have a Euro key on my '5' key too, but cannot get it to work, either. I have tried every key combination that I can think of, with the exception of Alt/F4 and Ctrl/Alt/Del. ( I KNOW what they do..)
Fortunately, I have very little need to converse in Euros.

Here's some stuff I've known for awhile
Alt + 130 = é Alt + 132 = ä Alt + 135 = ç Alt + 138 = è Alt + 140 = î Alt + 147 = ô Alt + 148 = ö Alt + 149 = ò Alt + 150 = û Alt + 152 = ¤ (Dunno what that is) Alt + 153 = Ö Alt + 154 = ¤ Alt + 156 = £ (I did it!!!) Alt + 157 = ¥ Alt + 158 = P Alt + 159 = Ÿ Alt + 160 = á Alt + 162 = ó Alt + 163 = ú Alt + 165 = Ñ (Yay!) Alt + 167 = º (Yay!) Alt + 168 = ¿ (Yay!) Alt + 170 = ¬ Alt + 174 = ® Alt + 175 = »
And so on and so on . . . basically you can just find about anything in the Alt + 1_ _ code. Try some out yourself, and the Ñ code'll come in handy for spanish class. On macintosh computers, you can just hold ALT and press a letter, then press that letter again. It'll do some weird codes.

I prefer the Ctrl, Shift and Alt with either the ',`, ^ or : with the letters to give me accented letters, easier than remembering lots of numbers. 1/2 in html is ½ that I do know.
Perhaps you can explain what Alt + 159 = Ÿ means in your list, it is meaningless to me.

I certainly didn't type that. ƒ If it turns out in a code, Alt + 159 is a kind of calligraphy "f". The ctrl, shift, and alt doesn't work on my computer.
