OK, there are 2 Mister Mr songs listed in this thread, so I guess they're not a one-hit wonder?

A couple of people have already mentioned my fav, Tainted Love by Soft Cell. I was going to say What I Like About You by the Romantics, but I remembered they have another song I like, Talking in Your Sleep, so they're out.

This is harder than it looks...

OK, here's a few:

Into the Night, Benny Mardones
Don't Dream It's Over, Crowded House
Don't Do It, Frankie Goes to Hollywood

I think you'll find Crowded House to be far more than a one hit wonder, BillieJJ.

And Frankie goes to Hollywood had "Relax", "Two Tribes" and "The Power of Love" all at number 1 in the UK.

And the second Mr. Mister song I listed was what, my old Russian grandmother, if I had an old Russian grandmother, would call a shootka, that is, a joke.

Mr. Mister in fact had three top 5 songs in America, including the two number ones listed and a third song that I haven't heard in twenty years called "Is It Love?" that hit number 3 on the charts.

"Your Woman" by White Town is always going to be a winner with me in the UK. Although if we're talking about US One-Hit-Wonders too, my favourite would have to be "Nothing Compares To You" by Sineád O Connor.

There were plenty of one-hit wonders in the psychedelic sixties. I can't remember them all but the Strawberry Alarm Clock was one of them.

Ah, yes! A good one: “Incense and Peppermints” by Strawberry Alarm Clock!
Also:
"You Spin Me Round and Round" by Dead Or Alive
"In The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans
“Take On Me” by Ah-ha!

I have to say my favourite one hit wonder of all time is Tubthumping by Chumbawumba. You can't beat it.

I also really like Song 2 by Blur.

afraid I have to burst a couple of bubbles here, apologies.... however first of all i'll set myself up for a ripost from you guys.....

Mine is 'Einstein a Go-Go' by landscape

Okay, heres some observations....

1 - Im resonably certain that Tony Basil had at least one other hit, I recall preferring it to 'Mickey' but the mists of time have addled my recollection of its title, my bad

2 - Steelers Wheel definately had a couple of other hits, wasnt one of them 'Part of the Union' ?

3 & 4 Both Don Mclean and Focus had other hits, the latter had 'Sylvia'

5 - Howard Jones had a couple of hits

6 & 7 - Both Soft Cell and Dexies had other hits (wasnt 'Jackie Wilson says' the next Dexies hit?

8 - Gary Numan had other hits for certain

Of course as someone else said, they may have only had one hit in that posters homeland so apologies if Ive ruffled feathers here.....

ah, just checking page 2 of the thread

9 - I dont see how listing a number of a groups songs makes them 'one hit wonders' (unless the rest of the songs didnt chart I guess....

10 - Frankie goes to Hollywood had several number ones, all from the same album (welcome to the pleasure dome) I felt they topped the charts on both sides of the pond, might be wrong tho

11 - Ah-Ha had several hits, 'cry wolf' for example

12 Blur have had loads of hits too

Rats, just remembered another one I like..... I'll withdraw my earlier shout and replace it with 'Spaceman' by Babylon Zoo

(this isnt a trolling post, merely looking to prompt discussion)

"Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners, and "99 Luft Balloons" by Nena.”

Funny reading through the posts, am sure that most of us feel that they know more than one “hit” from many of the
Dexys would be remembered for the following hits at least
Come On Eileen
Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)

Because Of You

Geno

And am amazed that people call Nena a 1 hit wonder... here just some of my favorite hits

Nur Geträumt

99 Luftballons

Leuchtturm

? (fragezeichen)

Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann

Rette Mich

Feuer & Flamme

Wunder Gescheh'n

Ich Bleib' Im Bett

And as for ... American Pie-Don Mclean

Gasp... how could anyone forget Vincent ?

lol..music around the world.

{Helpful Beagle} 'Part of the Union' was the Strawbs, and it's got one of the best versions of 'Wild Mountain Thyme' on the B side {/HB}

In my last year of school my year all loved "Gino" by Dexys Midnight Runners. We prefered it to "Come on Eileen" but no one seems to remember it.

I still love "McArthur Park" for its ridiculousness. Can't help but smile.
"Turning Japanese" by The Vapors for its wonderful line "I want a doctor to take you picture so I can look at you from inside as well". It makes me laugh.
"Ca Plane Pour Moi" by Plastic Bertrand is one I'll never tire of.
"Nice Legs, Shame about Her Face" by the Monks. How can you not love lyrics like "Shame about the boat race"?

One to make you think about the lyrics is 'Master Jack' by the South African band Four Jacks and a Jill.

Does anyone remember the Middle of the Road's song 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep'? It is a fun song but I prefer their other, lesser known song, 'Soley Soley'. I have no idea what either of them actually mean, but who cares?
