Several. But near the top of the list has to be Bali. Such peace I have never known. Wonderful beaches, lovely people, heavenly food, addictive music and the cheapest cost of living (for tourists) I had a wonderful three weeks there, completely alone. I was never troubled once, even at night time. I ate and drank like a queen and came back completely rested in body and soul. Terrific.

I enjoyed Bali too, ren, but my holiday there was not quite as restful as yours. I was in Kuta with a couple of thousand other Australians and it was not restful.
My favourite place is still in Indonesia, though. Pangandaran is a small seaside village on the south coast of eastern West Java (I hope that makes sense). It is a sleepy little vilage where my brother, a mate and I stayed in a very cool hostel. It was run by an Aussie ex-pat woman who had "gone native", so to speak, in the '70s. No electricity. No hot water. Gas lamps and candles and torches. Beer kept in eskies full of large blocks of ice which we sat around drinking at nights with the locals. It was just one of the best times I've ever had in my life.
We also did a canoing trip up a river. Jumped off bridges. Ate green cocnuts that came fresh from the tree. Absolutely magic.
Next favourite would be Mexico just north of Puerto Vallarta.

Sorry to hear you were in Bali at that terrible time, Jim. We lost a few from here too, but nowhere near the loss of the Australian people.. I think it is important to try and support the Bali people, they have lost their livelihood in many cases. I intend to go there as soon as I can get away. However , I did not want to ignore the terrible thing that happened, no one will ever forget it.

Definitely has to be Hawaii for me! Best vacation I've ever had, but then again there's still lots of other places I'd love to go to as well! But for now, yes it's gotta be Hawaii!

I've been to Europe and Mexico. I've been to beaches on both coasts of the US, the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea. I've seen the sunset over Mayan ruins, and the sunrise over my nation's capital, but of all the places I've been, the one I like best is home. Not where I live now, but where I was born.
The Big Horn mountains in Wyoming. Mountain streams, caves, falls, the beautiful wild flowers... There is a place where the Tongue River actually gushes from the very rock and begins its flow through northern Wyoming and southern Montana. And there is a cave there, where you can delve down to the river itself, running its ancient course through the mountain.
I know there are other places like this, but none just like this. The masses that inhabit the Colorado Rockies don't know what they're missing. So peaceful, so quiet. No tourists. Just home.

The best place I have been to is Glacier National Park in Montana. It was so breathtakingly beautiful, and I absolutely loved the trails, the road to the sun, and the scenery. Take someone that you trust to drive, since the roads are on the edge of glacier carved mountains. If anyone ever wanted to camping, Glacier is the first place that I would recommend. Gorgeous. If you go there, you must try whitewater rafting as well. I insist.
For those who don't enjoy the outdoors (although you are clearly insane), Washington DC is a more civilized place to go that is just awesome. It helps if you are a history buff like me, but anyone can have a great time there. Just ignore the potential terrorist threat, and you'll be fine!

Geographic place would have to be the Isle of Wight (UK)(So many memories) but an agricultural showground, not far from home, where my sons became National Band Champions would have to be the winner.

I think the best is where I spent every summer (plus other visits) for 21 years, which is Dartington Hall estate in Devon. It's located in a bend in the river Dart, and is a group of school and college buildings surrounded by woods and a dairy farm. It had 3 swimming pools, but since the school closed about 20 years ago only the college one remained. Anyone in South Devon should take the turn off the Totnes Road or A 38 and visit the estate, which is open to the public and also has the historic hall and incredible gardens. If anyone else has seen it, (as it gets thousands of visitors in the summer) what did you think?

I have been excedingly blessed with seeing the sights of the big blue marble. Big chunks of Europe, USA, Asia, Australia. One of my greatest memories was entertaining Iban tribesmen (headhunters) and sharing a meal with them in the jungles of Borneo. The most amazing thing is that they have next to nothing and are willing to share it with any visitor, we are rich with things and share very little. It was an awesome experience in a tribal longhouse. Does that sound like bragging? I've shared meals with hoboes too. Still the best view is my front porch looking in! cheers Maynooth

One of my favourite places in the world is Vancouver, Canada. It´s absolutely amazing. I also love Barcelona, Spain and most places in Australia.
