Oh my God, I just finished "The DaVinci Code". I have not been so intrigued by a book since "The Alienist". I read it in less than a week. I couldn't put it down! I would read on my way to work, during my lunch hour and on the way home. Then when I got home I would go onto the computer to look stuff up. So much research, history, interesting facts and the art world all wrapped into one. Gatsby 722, let me know what you think of the book. You must be finished by now.

I was wanting to read this book but I think I will have to quit putting it off and get it now.

I bought "The Da Vinci Code" on Saturday and finished it last night, and it was a terrific book. The plot was fast paced and I just could not get enough of the book. Brown has down a lot of research for this book, and after reading it, I searched the interenet for some of the things he mentions in the book, and you know they really do exist! That is what makes this book so fascinating....you have know idea which parts are true and which parts are fiction. One thing I found is that all references to the art work in the book are accurate...this book is worth reading. This is the type of book that I can read and reread..it is that exciting! ---------- Agnes (JTJ) Edited for spelling error...yeah I know 4 years too late, but better late than never!

I read it last year, and I really enjoyed it. I had to read some parts over, though, because of the complicated twists and connections. But I'd read it again.

Well i really enjoyed the Davinci code, and the earlier set book angels and deamons, absolutly fabulous. His deception point was really interesting too on a completley different senario. I wonder where he is going to take robert next? cant wait.

I can't get past the absolute historical rubbish therein. I had the same trouble with the movie Shadow of the Vampire, though.

I agree, I thought it was awful. So predictable, and I solved all the codes so easily. I cannot see anything of interest about the book at all.

It was a fun "read" (listened to the audiobook) but entirely fictional in regards to theology.

I loved the Divinci Code but it is better to read the book he wrote before Angels and Demons first, I thought it better than the Divinci code, they are making a movie of Angels and Demons at the moment.

I thought it was about the most badly written piece of tosh I've ever had the misfortune to read. The style had "movie script wannabee" written all over it, the characters were one dimensional - especially the female character. And he follows the same old formula each time. It's not true to say he researched it well. He plagiarised another book, that's all, and in fact his "research" was so poor he identified the Prieure de Sion as a factual society when Plantard had conceded a while back it was a complete fabrication. I read the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail over twenty years ago, I found the ultimate premise of the book without merit but it was an interesting read. So the big shock horror reveal of the book was old news to me. That left my with the rest - which was dire. Still, all credit to the bod. If I could make millions from writing turgid drivel I'd be happy. )

The sad thing is Ajax that a lot of the history is interesting enough without adding to it. I would say if the Knights Templar interest you, or Mary Magdalene, or the turbulent Cathar history of the Languedoc then there are far better books you can read. I really recommend "Montaillou" - it's an amazing read. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Montaillou-Cathars-Catholics-Village-1294-1324/dp/0140137009

A while ago, I downloaded the DaVinci Code from iTunes and the audio-book was fantastic. It's very riveting. It only took me about 1 week to listen to the full audio-book.
I also like the movie with Tom Hanks quite a bit. Matter of fact, I recently bought the DVD of the movie for my collection.

No one is saying the Davinci Code is the greatest book in print, but hey it is a bit of escapism. One thing to be said for it, it got people thinking, talking, debating etc.and possibly got more people reading more serious books about the subject.Like the Harry Potter books got children reading again,so the Davinci Code got people reading who hadn't read a book for years I know of half a dozen, and the good thing is they have started reading other books. So don't knock the "inane drivel" if it got people reading again that can only be for the good.

I enjoyed reading it, it was intriguing and exciting. The main idea behind it was far-fetched, but was presented in a believable way - hence people now believe that there really is a conspiracy! Presumably those are the same people who believe that soap-opera characters are real, I guess. The film was disappointing though, somehow it did not capture the same depth or urgency that the book did.

If the girl was a descendant of Christ he would only be one of two to the power of eighty great-grandparents (allowing 25 years to a generation)so the genes must be running a bit thin. Christ would probably have at least the same number of descendants, so she's nothing special.

When I'm reading fantasy I can usually manage 'the willing suspension of disbelief' but it failed me with 'Angels and Demons'. The fall from the aeroplane at the end is just too silly.

An amusing book, rather melodramatic and corny but still a fun read. I have to agree, looking at the detail, that the questionable person on the painting 'The Last Supper' does look much more like a female than a teenage male disciple. However, the idea that Mary M. would flee to the west (into the lion's den so to speak) seems highly unlikely and somewhat silly.
