One of the things that we strive for here at FunTrivia is posting facts that can be verified as being true. We don't want this to become another site that pushes the same urban legends or untruths that most sites do.

One of our most interesting facts that was debunked here was that Howdy Doody had 48 freckles - one for each state in the Union at that time. NOT TRUE! You can read the whole story in the I Need an Answer Forum. It was this fact that led to our term "moosetiks" here.

What is your favorite way to verify a fact? Do you have a particular source that you tend to rely on to make sure that the things you say are really accurate rather than just passing along something you got in the latest batch of emails?

What are some of the more reliable ways that facts can be verified? And, on the flip side, are there any that you recommend others stay away from?

Thank heavens for the Internet to verify claims as fact or fiction. Today, there are so many sites available to confirm or debunk the veracity of wild claims. Ten years ago, confirmation required an extensive knowledge of research materials for more arcane questions; today, anyone with a computer and a basic knowledge of where to look can check as to whether certain claims are true.
The spread of real knowledge is endemic and we are all the richer for it. Hooray for the microchip!!
