1. ACTION - ~~PINHEAD~~s flying and mixing, ending with a good makeable leave.
2. ANCHOR - The last bowler in the line-up of a team.
3. APPROACH (Walk or Runway) - That part of lane which the bowler moves up to the foul line with his delivery.
4. BABY SPLIT - Any apparent 9 inch HOLE where nearest ~~PINHEAD~~ is one side of HOLE and front HOLE ~~PINHEAD~~s are diagonally apart (Worcester; or No. 3 and No. 8 ~~PINHEAD~~ leave; etc.).
5. BACKUP (Slice) - A ball which curves or 'fades away' to the right for a right hander and vice versa for a left hander.
6. BAGGER - Consecutive MARKS in one string (TWO BAGGER, THREE BAGGER, FOUR BAGGER, etc.).
7. BALLRACK - Portion of ball run, alongside the approach, on which balls remain after their return from the pit (Ballrack is now generally in the center of each pair of lanes.)
8. BARN DOOR - Any favorable WOOD directly in front of the key ~~PINHEAD~~(s), (ROAD BLOCK.)
9. BOWLING CENTER - Bowling Establishment, (Bowling Alley, HOUSE.)
10. BOWL-OFF - First elimination of bowling (semi-finals). A Roll-off is final eliminations, (Finals).
11. BOX-FRAME - In horizontal scoring, the smaller box is used for 3 ball score, or bonus on mark. In vertical scoring, the left column-box is also used.

14. CHOKE - To become over-anxious and miss badly.

19. DANCER - ~~PINHEAD~~ bouncing end to end, or end over end (usually off to SIDEWALL).
20. DASH (-) - A dash written in the place of a mark where scoring after two balls - indicates that no MARK was made in that box. (Dashes are used by scorekeepers in bowling competitions).
21. DEAD BALL - A ball that is out of play, or that does not count as rolled (not fair, not foul). Also ball with little action.
22. DEADWOOD - A WOOD that has crossed the deadwood line or wood that has gone into the gutter. (DEADWOOD is not playable).
23. FAIR ZONE - Portion of lane between the FOUL-LINE and the LOB-LINE.
24. FILL (COUNT) - Bonus on strike or spare.
25. FOUL - Step~~PINHEAD~~g on or over the foul-line, touching the lane with any part of the body, lobbing the ball.
26. FRAME - Overall box, showing strike, spare, fill, or dash, box score, and accumulated total.
27. FULL HIT - Striking the target ~~PINHEAD~~ at or near the center (on the nose, or high hit).
28. GAME - One string by each member of a team or group.
29. GOOD OUT (NICE OUT) - Got most of ~~PINHEAD~~s remaining on a bad leave (third ball).
30. GOOD TRY - Good shot on the key ~~PINHEAD~~ or the target wood.
31. GUIDE MARKS (Line) - An aid to finding start of 2 or 3 steps for ball delivery. Most approaches have guide lines (commonly at 8 feet 2 inches and 11 feet 6 inches before the foul line; formed by 1 inch spots, 8½ inches apart, and centered with lane).
32. GUTTER BALL - When ball goes into channel or gutter.
33. HANDICAP - To adjust the score between players or teams to compensate for an obvious superiority, (opponent with higher average).
34. HOOK - (To "come in") - A ball that breaks sharply to the left for a right hander and vice versa for a left hander.
35. IN THERE - In either the left or right STRIKE ZONE (or, ball made a good hit).
36. KEY ~~PINHEAD~~ - Front of target ~~PINHEAD~~ of any leave, (when there is no wood shot).
37. LANE - Preferred over "alley". (The term cross alley is used for a ball delivery.)
38. LANE MARKERS - Range finders (alley sights) and foot guide lines.
39. LEAD-OFF - The first bowler in the line-up of a team.
40. LEFT FIELD - Area left of head ~~PINHEAD~~: (and RIGHT FIELD - area right of head ~~PINHEAD~~).
41. LOB - To toss the ball over the lob line which is 10 feet from the approach side of the foul line.
42. MARK - Strike (10 ~~PINHEAD~~s down on first ball get a double diagonal line), or Spare (10 ~~PINHEAD~~s down with two balls get a single diagonal line).
43. MATCH - 3, 5, or 10 strings (per player) game between opponents.

50. PUZZLE - Where wood is an obstruction or is difficult to figure (play).
51. RANGE FINDERS (Alley sights) - 5 targets, each 1X7 inch, 6½ inches apart; forming a 2 foot long arrowhead centered 20 feet beyond the foul-line installed in many candle~~PINHEAD~~ centers.
52. SCRATCH - Using actual score without classification.
53. SERIES (Set) - (Usually) three strings total (may be 5 or 10 strings, etc.)
54. SIDEWALL (Kickbacks; Side Kick) - The high division boards between LANES at the ~~PINHEAD~~s end (partition between ~~PINHEAD~~decks).
55. SPLIT - Any apparent 9 inch HOLE where two nearest ~~PINHEAD~~s are side by side and both ~~PINHEAD~~s are a part of the HOLE (example: SPREAD EAGLE); or, any apparent 15 inch or larger HOLE (example; DOUBLE ~~PINHEAD~~OCHLE; or HI-LO-JACK, which is a DOUBLE SPLIT).
56. SPOT - A place on the LANE where a bowler is aiming, (also, part of a track or line.)
57. STEAL - To get more ~~PINHEAD~~s then you hit for, or that you deserve by the hit made.
58. STRIKE ZONE - Target area on either side of HEAD~~PINHEAD~~.
59. SWEEP - The device on the ~~PINHEAD~~-setter which clears the plate.
60. SWEEPER - WOOD that cleans remaining ~~PINHEAD~~s off deck (clears remaining ~~PINHEAD~~s).
61. SWEEPSTAKE - Tournament where contestants pay an entry fee (for prizes).

3. CORNER ~~PINHEAD~~ - The 7 ~~PINHEAD~~ or 10 ~~PINHEAD~~ ("Left a part of the building", etc.).
4. DIAMOND - 3-5-6-9 or similar (BASKET or BUCKET).
5. DOUBLE ~~PINHEAD~~ (TANDEM) - Two ~~PINHEAD~~s, one behind the other (1-5 or 2-8 or 3-9).
6. DOUBLE ~~PINHEAD~~OCHLE - The 4-6-7-10 SPLIT. This LEAVE has a three-~~PINHEAD~~ HOLE (~~PINHEAD~~OCHLE is the 4-10 or 6-7 SPLIT).
