Software problems were first called "bugs" in the 1940s. Grace Hopper, a USA Navy lieutenant, was working on one of the earlies computers when it suddenly stopped. Finding a moth trapped is one of the machine's moving parts, she reported: "Computer failure caused bug"!

(Taken from "Crashing Computers" by Michael Coleman.)

From the same book I've found out that the mouse is so called because of its shape and the "tail" of a cable connecting it to the computer.

The first mouses (mice?), invented in 1970, had wooden shells and slid around on two metal wheels.
