Yesterday (19 August 2003) the UN Headquarters in Baghdad was attacked apparently by a suicide bomber driving a car bomb. The truck crashed through the gates of the compound and exploded just as a press conference was starting. I actually heard sound recording of it on the radio this morning and it was quite chilling.

The UN website for information is: HERE

Yes, it's been a big day for suicide bombers all over the Middle-East, hasn't it?

I don't think the tenure of the United Nations extend over in Iraq. It was the coalition of the willing, lead by United States, Britain and Spain who got Saddam out, so it would be justified if it was also these people who restored the peace and not the United Nations who did not lift a finger on the war efforts (especially France, well, if they joined the war, they might surrender and be needed to be saved so it is better without them)

However, adding to my previous post, my sympathies are with the people who lost their lives or those who are nursing an injury, both emotional and physical, in these attacks.

Isn't Iraq attracting new and more notorious terrorist groups?

GOP - I don't think they are new groups, 1000 lbs of explosives and other munitions are not that readily available.
This had to be the work of highly organised group aimed at undermining any democratic government of the country.

I would only want to see and observe some dramatic changes in how the administration of the president of the United States handles this terrorist problem in Iraq.
