The second largest traveling sand dune in the world is located outside Rock Springs.

Amelia Erhart had started to build her dream retirement home in 1936 near Kern. When she disappeared in 1937, construction on her home ended.A permanent monument was erected to honor a dear neighbor, Amelia Earhart, in Meeteetse September 24, 1972.

Frewen's Castle near Sussex was the home of Winston Churchill's Aunt Clara. The Castle was built by Clara and Moreton Frewen.

Dinosaur footprints 165 million years old (middle Jurassic) were found near Shell, Wy. in the Spring of 1997.

Dinosaur skull and bones were found at Alcova lake by a local elementary class on field trip.

USS Wyoming - U.S. Naval ship.
Four Naval ships have held the name of Wyoming. The first was in 1862. Just before WW I (c. 1912 and later), USS Wyoming (BB 32) was flagship of the Atlantic Fleet. The current USS Wyoming (SSBN 742) (a nuclear submarine) is one of the most modern warships ever developed, with more firepower than battleship navies ever dreamed of. The current USS Wyoming has a crew of 165.

There is a Wyoming city in Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York have counties named Wyoming.

Wyoming automobile license plates have a silhouette of the legendary bucking bronc, Steamboat, and rider. The rider's name is somewhat in doubt, but the horse was famous for having never been ridden successfully in saddle bronc riding competetion.

Wyoming's motto is "The Equality State," and to prove it, Nellie Tayloe Ross was elected governor back in the '20's (if I recall correctly). No other woman was elected as governor before, or since. Bye the bye, her middle name is correctly spelled above.
