Once a camel is beaten by a person, it will never forget that person. It will try to attack whoever beat him whenever the chance arises. Some have been known to kill their owners years after they were beaten. This is sometimes known as 'camel vengeance'

The fur of the Vicuna, a small member of the camel family which live in the Andes mountains of Peru, is so fine that each hair is less than two thousandths of an inch. The animal was considered sacred by the Incas, and only royalty could wear its fleece.

A camel can lose up to 30% of its body weight in perspiration and continue to cross the desert. A human would die of heat shock after sweating away only 12% of body weight.

There is a real Timbuktu. It's a city in Mali with 30,000 people and is a major salt trading post for camel caravan routes.

When Europeans first came across a giraffe, they called it a 'Camelopard', believing it to be a cross between a camel and a leopard.

Despite the hump, a camels spine is straight.

A camel is probably the only animal who can close his nostrils at will, a handy talent in a sandstorm! And here's a mnemonic that'll help you distinguish a single-humped camel from a double-humped one: lay a D and B on their sides and you can tell a single-humped Dromedary from a double-humped Bactrian. tjoeb};>
