The chunnel is one of Europe's biggest infrastructure projects ever. It consists of three interconnected tubes. One rail track each way and a small service tunnel.

Its length is 31 miles of which 23 are under water. The tunnel goes to as deep as 150 meters beneath the sea bed.

It takes only 20 minutes to cover the length of tunnel under the sea.

There are a total of 95 miles of tunnels.

The tunnel was constructed by nearly 13,000 engineers, technicians and workers.

The volume of rubble removed from the tunnel is three times greater than the Chepos Pyramid in Egypt and increased the size of Britain by 90 Acres (equivalent to sixty eight football fields). This area has been made into a park.

You won't get me going through there, it isn't natural to travel under the water in a train!

That's one of the ways we get from New Jersey to New York, Sue. The PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) trains from Newark's Penn Station into Manhatten. Not to mention the Lincoln & Holland Tunnels from NJ to NY, or the Brooklyn-Battery tunnel (Lower Manhatten to Brooklyn) or Queens-Midtown Tunnel (self-explanatory) which are all for vehicular traffic. These have been around longer than we have.
