All the sources I have consulted agree Queen Victoria of England died in 1901. Most say her reign started in 1837, but I also see 1838 and 1839 mentioned. Can anyone identify the definitive answer as to when her reign started?

Victoria's uncle, King William IV, died at Windsor Castle at 2:12 a.m. on June 20, 1837. Victoria was Queen from that moment. She was informed of her uncle's death by the Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Conyngham about three hours later at Kensington Palace. She was formally proclaimed as Queen the following day at St James's Palace.

Her coronation was on June 28, 1838.

King William the Fourth died on 20th June, 1837, so the 18 year old Victoria became queen from that date. The Coronation, however, did not take place until 1838.

Thanks to you both for the info. That explains why I saw the different dates. I'm researching the "Addition Info" for a question on how "Victorian-era" old houses got their name.
