This unusual photo caused some confusion for quite some time. At first glance it appears to be some sort of half reptile half man. It seems more likely however that this is the unfortunate consequence of a greedy crocodile trying to bite off more than it can chew. Fascinating non the less.

looks to me like it might be some archaeological thing from the age of pharaohs.

This reminds me too much of P.T. Barnum...you know, the guy who said there is a sucker born every minute.

He had something very similar to this that was called the Fiji mermaid. Barnum took the back part of a fish and a monkey torso and creatively stiched them together. The following web page shows one of the Fijian mermaids (although the front end doesn't look too much like a monkey to me).

After looking at these photos, I realize it is time for me to log off and get to bed.......when I start seeing odd things, I know I am tired! The Fiji mermaid looked bizarre, definately a home-made job. Weird! The crocodile eating the man or whatever it was supposed to be looked like good use of camera/computer photo altering.

Anyone remember the jackrabbit thing on Johnny Carson's show? It was some hybrid thing...this reminds me of it.

I am guessing you are refering to a jackalope? Don't remember this in particular from the Tonight Show but do know from jackalopes
