Australian country music legend Slim Dusty died this morning.

Deepest Sympathy to his family and all who loved him.

Slim was in the process of recording his 106th album; not bad for a 76 year old!

He will be sadly missed. I guess he was Australia's equivalent to Johnny Cash.

Good old Slim! Brought tears to my eyes when he sang Waltzing Matilda at the closing ceremony at the Olympics.

And I know that a special song of Slim's holds a certain relevance to Ozzz, you must be sad, mate.

The similarities are striking. In both cases, there are people who would walk over hot coals just to but another Cash or Dusty album, but there would be just as many who would claim that they just did not like each one of them.
However, if you asked the people who didn't like them, they's invariably say, "Well I did like 'A Boy Named Sue' ", or "I did like A Pub With No Beer", or "The Lights on the Hill" etc etc etc.
Certain types of music just seem to bridge the gap, and these two certainly knew how to do it.

Don't know if I agree with the state funeral idea. Well, more so that it was in Sydney and not a rural area where I'm sure his fan base was. Saying goodbye to him in a big city just seems, I dunno, wrong.
