One of the best books I've read recently is Paul Collins' "Sixpence House: Lost in a Town of Books". It's about the author's coming to Wales to find a house for himself, his wife and child. One of the houses he spots is the one of the title, an old rundown former pub he wants to renovate. Collins also tells of his adventures in secondhand bookstores and even working temporarily in one. Along the way, he gives opinions and trivia on everything on British candy bars and editorial cartoons to forgotten authors such as Helen Simpson and Kate Sanborn. And I love that cover! If you find it at your library or your nearest bookstore, do yourself a favor and get it!
