The IQ rankings and grades in the report you reference, Harish, is a spoof as the report admits. No truth to it at all.
Slo23 asked a question that cannot be answered with out more specific information. If you consider the score of 100 to be average for the general population of humans, the score of 126 must apply to millions of others.

I'd be having a stab at mensa members - but I can't find anything to suport it. Could it be aiming towards a specific occupation? Like doctors or something like that.

"For example, it is generally agreed that college professors have an average IQ of 126"
(Second paragraph, Third line)

Could this be the one you're looking for?

What I read the other day, but can no longer find, is that two groups of women from deprived backgrounds and low IQ's were monitored. They had children and one group were well fed and educated one way and the other used as a control. The well nourished/educated group when tested were found to have an average IQ of 126 - I don't remember the name of the experiment.

Sue, this may be the survey/experiment:
In 1961, the Milwaukee Project was launched to see if changing a child's family life could counteract the negative effects of cultural and socioeconomic deprivation. Forty poor, mostly black families — whose mothers had an average IQ on the Wechsler test of less than 75 — were used in the study.

While pregnant, these mothers were split into two groups. The experimental group was sent to school, given job training and placed into jobs. They were also given training in childcare, home economics and personal relationships. The other group, a control, was given no special education or training. In addition, from 3 months to 6 years of age, the children in the first group spent the better part of each weekday in an educational center. Besides training involving a wide range of educational toys, they were given nourishing meals. Paraprofessionals in this program cared for the children in ways similar to non-working mothers in affluent families.

Periodically, all of the children were given IQ tests. In the final testing, the children in the experimental group had an average IQ of 126 — 51 points higher than their mothers' scores and higher than 90% of the American population. In contrast, the average IQ of the control group children was only 94, but it was still significantly higher than their mothers' scores. This small increase might have been due to their becoming accustomed to taking tests. This was an experience that their mothers rarely had.

Ooops! Sorry for that slo23, specially if you used my answer in some competition!

Anyway, if this is from a competition, then I really think the quiz-makers need some practise; there's definitely more than one person who have an IQ of 126 (which would be impossible to keep track of)!

I'd be certain they're after a group of people, harish and not an individual.

It could then be the average IQ of all the taxidermists in Madagascar, and nobody would know...

Sorry, just arguing for the sake of it!

And - I still hold that this is an unfair question for a trivia competition!

GT - why I am I not surprised that choosing illiterate parents who had no schooling and then measuring their childrens achievements after attending school showed the children to have a higher IQ!
And the average IQ when the control group and the Test group are combined is 105 (Well blow me down it's the average plus or minus 5) for any statistical test of IQ The mean being 100.

hi all
just for the record: mensa members are required to have at least a score on a standardized test that is at or above two standard deviations above the mean.
the mean being 100 and 15 points often considered the amount of one standard deviation so a score of about 130 (forget which test, either the WAIS or the Stanford-Binet) the tests mensa has been using to test potential members are the cattell and the california test of mental maturity. pass either test and you could join mensa. at least this is the way i remember it all from about 1980 when i joined. not currently a member (may rejoin and try to start a group in the kitsap county area of state of wa.

It is not Mensa members. As a previous member (costs too much), I know that the rule is 98 percentile or above which is about 145-150 iq.

hi all
just visited the mensa site and copied the various iqs according to tests allowed for membership and the answer is:
A top 2% mark in any of these frequently used tests below qualifies you for entry to Mensa. The minimum test mark to get into Mensa is:
Cattell III B - 148
Culture Fair - 132
Ravens Advanced Matrices - 135
Ravens Standard Matrices - 131
Wechsler Scales - 132 "
Notice the Wechsler scale acceptance iq level.
The Stanford-Binet acceptable iq results closely resemble the wechsler.
plus this is the way i remember my theory and practicum course in intelligence testing.
i hope this helps. You may wish to visit a mensa site yourself for additional information and/or for confirmation.
