A U.S. federal judge gave back the owner of the Washington Redskins’ right to trademark protections.

The team would have lost the trademark protection of six logos because a panel from the US Patent and Trademark Office came to the conclusion that the term Redskins is a offensive and therefore they were not eligible for patent under U.S. patents laws in 1999.

The judge found that there wasn’t enough concrete evidence to show that the team name insulted a substantial number of Native Americans in relation to the team back when the team’s first trademark was registered in 1967 and therefore the panel didn’t have enough evidence to reach the decision it made.
