The Mayor of the town of Torredonjimeno has decreed that any male citizen found on the streets of his town must pay a penalty of five euros. This policy was designed to free women from domestic shackles and raise awareness of equality between the sexes.
However, it seems to be unpopular with both sexes, and the Mayor seems to be on some sort of power trip.

What do our FT members think?

I wonder if our mayor will consider passing the same thing in NY?

Fernando Cortes, 35, a clothing salesman, who refused to pay the fine, said: "Obviously you must respect your wife, but the brains in a relationship belong to the man, because God made it that way. Women do have power in the home: they shop, they buy their husband's clothes and choose what he will wear each day."

Which for me translates as I am too lazy to even shop for my clothes and to choose what I wear each day, it is her job to lay my clothes out for me. Which might account for...

There were two sides of the domestic violence coin, said a father of two.

"People talk about domestic violence against women but we suffer serious psychological abuse from our women. Our wives abuse us psychologically in the bedroom. They won't sleep with us, so we have to go to prostitutes."

I am not a feminist but comments like this could certainly give me pause for thought. I wouldn't sleep with the MCP either!

If the mayor is going to allocate the money for pubs and football (soccer) clubs, this is a great idea!

So if the man actually fancies a Thursday night in on his own maybe his partner should be liable for a 5 Euro fine if she stays in.

That sounds fair to me, TW. Perhaps the Spanish Football League could reschedule all games to Thursdays.
